Actually, more information would be better but let's give it a try. IF your battery is dead or there are loose connections then no power is the problem. If there is power and turning the key just dims the panel lights the problem COULD be the neutral safety switch located on the clutch pedal linkage under the dash or at the transmission if it is an automatic.

My key is stuck in the ignition.

Your car has several different ignition positions. They each offer slightly different functionality.
Off: In this position, the engine is off, and so are your electronic accessories (unless the delay has not expired yet). You can still turn on lights (headlights, interior lights, etc.).
ACC: This is the accessory position. Turn the key to ACC if you want to listen to the radio, play a CD or use other accessories without cranking the engine.
On: In this position, all of the electronics should come on. This is also the position that the key will return to after cranking the engine.
Start: Turn the key to this position to crank the engine. Let go of the key when the engine is running and the key will return to the on position.

I use to own a car that had an ignition that was ACC - OFF - ON - START.

Try turning your ignition one position clockwise and see if the radio turns off and the key comes out.

OK can anyone help?? My car will not turn off, grinds when I put in park and the key comes out of ignition but will not turn. Meanwhile is over heating and spraying water out of the fluid container for the...

car, or engine?
sounds like 2 problems at once to me.
total catastrophic failure of the starter
and an overheated engine. (much worse.....)
please avoid turns on and off, engine do not turn on.
then start
and run
when you turn the key off, this kills the ignition and the engine stalls.

if the starter was to stick on, you will hear it, key off.
do you? did you?
while not turn? the key or the engine.???????

do not drive any car with a stuck starter, or overheat problem.

Engine turns over but will not start.

Hi there:

When the light comes on, one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are stored in the engine control module. These DTCs remain even if the light goes out. To address a Check Engine Light problem, the DTCs are retrieved and the appropriate troubleshooting information is followed in order to determine the problem.

Just scanned the computer and send us code number find it.

Hope helps.

I have a 2004 Cadilac CTS we bought a replacement chip key which the Chev Olds dealer could not program I took the new key to a Cadilac dealer they told me the key is defective now the Chev dealer has...

Okay, to program a key you will need two keys that are already programmed, insert one key ignition turned on and engine off, remove the key and within 10 sec insert the second key and turn ignition on with engine off, remove that key and within 10 sec insert the key to be programed. you will need to do a 30 min.relearn with only one key,you will turn ignition on with engine off and wait about 10 min until light goes out then remove the key and repeat this step when light goes out repeat step one more time then use key to start car, computer has learned all info. you will now turn off engine, insert programmed key turn key on engine off then remove the key and insert key to be programed within 10 sec.all done good day.

As soon as I turn the key to the on position, the engine turns over

The problem is either in the mechanism that pushes the rod that activates the ignition switch from the key lock cylinder, or the ignition switch is defective.
