Chances are your " IN TANK" fuel pump is at fault. Failing that, there is a electrical connection failure between starter switch and the fuel pump. Sometimes a "HOT" wire can be used to diagnose this problem. The fuel pump can be accessed by dropping the fuel tank.

When i give gas i hear a noise almost like an exhaust leak

you could have the start of an leaking manifold to find out if this is starting to happen spray some carb cleaner over the inlet manifold while engine is a temp if any changes happen when you spray an area i.e engine idles faster or cuts out then this is were you problem is going to start from. also check the air line with the cleaner. if every thing is fine then its just an intake clean is needed take the top off the inlet spray the carb cleaner in there let it sock for awhile and wipe out ht muck etc. don't do it with the engine running. after a good clean change the air filter. also on some models there is a secondary air intake vale check this as the vale can fail. when the engine valve fails can sound like the engine is high performance but with out the power. usually sits next to the exhaust manifold has 2 pipes coming out of the exhaust manifold to a pipe with a vale on it then a rubber pipe out to the front of the engine bay. some have fans fitted and some don't depends on engine number fitted. will have a filter at the end.

When the car starts cold it starts and idle goog for a few seconds after it idle drops to 0 then cuts off

Idle air control valve is probably playing up or leaks in air intake system from air filter box to inlet manifold.

Idle air control valve can be found on inside of inlet manifold. Take air cleaner parts off and there should be a small groove somewhere. squirt out with brake claner / degreaser

I need to replace the thermostat for my 2000 Isuzu Rodeo, V6 3.2 Liter LS model? I see that it is on top of the engine under the intake. What steps do I take to remove the intake. Will the top and bottom...

remove fuel pump fuse and start car when it dies try to start again, no more spluttering just cranking, the fuel system is now depressurised. you can now disconnect both of the quick disconnect fuel lines at rear lower section of inlet manifold this is hard to get to some access this by removing the EGR valve so you can get your arms down there watch out for sharp edges of manifold. you dont need to take the top section of the inlet manifold off but will need new lower inlet manifold gaskets to haed.once manifold is off block all intake ports with rag or put tape over ports to stop dirt and stuff falling into ports while continuing to work on the coolant pipes below to get to thermostat.undo only 4 long centre bolts and the 4 nuts, one in each corner(no.3 in picture).

stevenhurc_7.jpgyou dont need to remove throttle body but some people do.

When you press the gas it ack like it want to cut off

most likely cause is the mass air control sensor ,its the one in the air intake pipe between the air filter and the inlet manifold

Cold start it cuts out alot til you start it a few times

If you depress the throttle all the way before starting does that help..if so maybe check out the throttle position sensor. When you car does start does it struggle to maintain idling when you engage the steering, if so this could be gummed up idle air control valve. Generally check the car inlet manifold for leaks and any vacuum hoses for splits etc. If you suspect a hose disconnect it and put your finger over the union with the manifold, if the hose was at fault the engine should run a little sweeter.

Take a look at the air filter and check. If its dirty change it.But it sounds that ur air flow meter is faulty.Remove the battery wires and leave off for about 4 hours then reconnect. That may solve your problem by powering up the computer.

Golf mk 4 gti turbo starts up but wont rev past 2000rpm

turbo is malfunctioning the turbo waste gate is not working take it to a shop right away, preferablly tow it so as not to damage the engine, if the exhaust gas's gets near the turbine bearings you will burn up the engine and the turbo cna explode like a hand granade and destrou your enging.

Revs ''hunt'' on tickover, sometimes revs drop so low car cuts out

Thanks to some advice I have fixed the problem with my Granada. The pipe work from the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold has a short piece of plastic pipe which needed replacing. This seems to have done the trick.

I would like to thank you for running this site. Without it I would still be re-starting my car each time I stop at a red light!
