    A broken brake line is likely. These repairs require special tools but are relatively easy for a brake shop.

Check right rear wheel cylinder.the wheel cylinder bleeder screw could be loose or brake line to rear brake hose or brake line broken.the rear wheel cylinder seal is leaking brake fluid.

My 98 gmc jimmy will not shift out of park


possibly the neutral safety switch connected to the brake pedal is bad. when you apply foot to brake , shouls hear a click with key in run position, this would be the safety solenoid retracting itself from shift linkage, allowing shift lever to move. try pumping rapidly, but easily the brake pedal to see if you can hear click, and or shift from park.

98 jimmy slows down and stops on its own.


If the brakes are stopping the jimmy, it could be a hydraulic problem. check brake fluid level in master cylinder. If it is overfilled, fluid can expand when fluid heats up and can apply brakes. also,bad brake hose can trap pressure in caliper and apply brakes. Also check brake pedal and booster adjustments. other possibility is caliper/hardware (mechanical) is hanging up and not releasing. If drum brake in back, check adjustment and/or stuck wheel cylinder.

Brake pedal often goes almost to floor-not spongy at all-doesn't seep if pressure constantly applied.

Probably air in the brake system. Bleed your brakes thoroughly. Start with right rear, then left rear, then right front then left front. Maintain proper fluid level in master cylinder while bleeding. Brake pedal hieght comes from the rear brakes, as those are the longest brake lines in the system. Mike

I have a 98 ford F150 4x4 and the brake pedal lights had been staying on after i stopped and shut down the truck.Had to pull pedal up to shut them off. today i noticed a shaking in rear brakes and pedal...


you may have a bad master cylinder that is not pushing the brake pedal to the stop when not breaking.in other words the master allows the pedal to rest lower as it doesn`t have sufficeint residual pressure to push the pedal back,or the pedal is catching on something not allowing it to return to its rest position.this can cause the rear brakes to apply slightly as the pedal not being all the way in the rest position is applying just enough pressure to the system.if the pedal is going all the way to the floor then you need to check for a fluid leak in the system including the master cylinder(internal leak)if no external leak is found.

Replaced front brake lines and now I have to bleed the brakes on my 1999 dakota truck


go in this order-
-make sure the fluid resivoir is full and the cap on
-crack both front bleeders loose and allow them to "gravity bleed"
-once you see fluid constantly dripping out of the bleeder close them
-do the same with the rear
-after you have gravity bled the brakes grab a partner and have them pump the brake 4 to 5 times holding the pedal down on the fifth time
have them say "holding" while you crack the right rear bleeder-once the pedal hits the floor they should say "floor" and hold it there while you tighten the bleeder. repeat until you see nothing but fluid squirt out.
repeat this whole process in this order
right rear
left rear
right front
left front
make sure to continually check the brake fluid level so it doesnt get too low
this should work unless the master cylinder leaked dry from replacing the lines-if this happened you will most likely have to bleed or even replace the master cylinder

My abs & brake lights go on & off brake pedal seems soft brake fluid - ok, no leaks, has new brake lines, slamming on the brakes locks 'em up. no abs, right? 2000 gmc jimmy 4.3


Sounds like you might have air in the brake system. You will need to bleed the brakes to remove air. Start with the passenger back wheel. use a small hose and submerge the end in a glass bottle filled 1/3 full of brake fluid. The other end goes on the nipple of the brake bleeder. Have someone pump the brakes and then hold the pedal down then loosen the bleeder. then tighten the bleeder. you should see bubbles in the brake fluid. Keep repeating this procedure until you see no bubbles. You might have to put as much as 1 quart of brake fluid thru each wheel to remove air. Then you do the driver side rear followed bypassenger side front and finally driver side front

1994 GMC pickup front brakes are sticking. Replaced brake pads, rotors and calipers. What next?


By "sticking" I am assuming that you mean that the brakes are staying applied (calipers are not releasing)and burning the brake pads and rotors up.

The most common cause of this is brake hoses.

The hoses that connect your calipers to the steel brake lines have an inner lining and a reinforced outer "shell". sometimes the inner lining tears loose from the outer shell inside the hose. (It cannot be seen by "looking" at the hose.) The inner lining then starts to act similar to a "heart valve" where it allows fluid to be pushed down into the caliper, then collapses inside the hose, blocking the fluid from returning to the master cylinder when the pedal is released. This can happen just because of the age of the hose, but is more commonly caused by someone allowing the caliper to hang by the hose while replacing the brake pads without using anything to support the weight of the caliper.

To diagnose this condition, raise and support the vehicle and remove the wheels. Make sure that the transmission is in "Park" (Automatic Transmission) or "Neutral" (Manual Transmission) and apply the parking brake. Then start the engine and apply the service brake. (Press HARD on the pedal) Shut the engine off, release the service brake and open the bleeder screws on the calipers. If brake fluid squirts out of the bleeder screw under pressure, then the hoses are the cause of the calipers not releasing.

Changed rear caliper on 98 blazer and now have no brake pressue at either rear wheel? Did before I changed calipers. Tried to bleed the brakes but get very little fluid out and it is slow, no pressure?


Hi,
Have someone pump the brake pedal and hold foot pressure it. Loosen the bleeder screw and air or fluid should shoot out... it's under pressure. Tell the person to not lift up on the pedal until you tighten the bleeder, or they'll draw air back into the line. They'll feel the pedal go down to the floor. Keep applying pedal pressure till the bleeder is tightened. Repeat the process till all air is out. They will have a "good pedal" shortly.
Do each wheel, and remember to refill the master cylinder as you lose fluid.

Rear brakes wont bleed. Sucks fluid in when brakes applied. Has ABS.


try this. open the two bleeder screw at the rear calipers. leave it open untill the fluid drips generously. close the bleeder. try the brakes. if it works bleed it the nornal way. note: make sure you dont run out of fluid in the master cylinder

If it has not leaked anywere else and it has not came out the line then the system still needs bleeding. Start at the fartherest from the master cylinder which would be the right rear.
