SOURCE: my cv joints on my

There is a lot of labor involved in changing the cv joints. I would strongly recommend purchasing a good repair manual (Chilton or Haynes), or going on line to alldata or e-mitchell auto repair to get all the necessary info on doing this repair. The cost of this info is small considering what u will save by doing it yourself. Good luck, let me know if this helps out.

have you undone the main hub bolt, if yes, there could be two different items holding the cv joint on, one is a small circlip in the joint end, or the other is just like an expanding metal ring again only small. what i had to do to change my one was take the driveshaft out (easier to see whats there) then gently (rubber hammer) hit the CV joint it should then fall off to allow you to change the CV joint. I spent over an hour trying to get the metal ring off, then after taking driveshaft off it was changed and back on in ten mins. Or you can go to a motor factors or similar and get a boot puller, my opinion hammer works better lol

SOURCE: severe bearing noise from front wheel bearing/cv

you have to replace bearing and hub as a unit.you have to remove remove brakes and caliper rotor set them aside dont disconnect brake line. get a piece of clothes rack wire to hold brake caliper .do not let it hang by brake hose. you got to remove hub nut. best way to do that is loosen it a litttle while tire still on weight of car keep wheel from turning .

SOURCE: cv joints

The process is a little involved. Try going to Autozone.com and see if they have a repair guide online to look at the process.

Hope this helps...

What's your question? what is the effect on vehicle is u leave the abs and 4wd warning lights on after replacement of the CV joints on a 240s Toyota ipsum

Both the abs and 4wd controllers look at the speed sensors at the axles. If they don't see them the abs will not work as long as the light is on. The 4wd will not to if it locks with a switch

2001 toyota sienna changed drive shaft & ABS lights on now

Sounds like the ABS sensor is not hooked up.
The sensor is behind the brake rotor attached to the spindle where the axle shaft sticks thru.
You might want to have the computer scanned for codes to make sure the light is on for the same wheel the axle was removed from.

ABS light for My Toyota Caldina is ever on after changing CV joint

These are different systems. You also need to clear the old Code so you are not worrying about something that is fixed.

The ABS light also reports on the rear Brakes too. So whatever you did up front has no repair value for the rear wheels. Some of these systems have circuits which could be scanned with the proper scanner.

This means you can take the car and get it Diagnosed. Autozone, Oreilys, and Advance will do this free if they have the proper scanner. I worked mostly on Ford products but the ABS systems are more or less universal.

The scanner may tell you which wheel or axle still has the problem. Sometimes if the brakelines are removed for a repair, the parts inside the brake system need to be centered for the ABS light to go out. It is a simple matter of rebleeding the brakes. Take it back to whoever worked on it to finish.

Hi P,
I think that the warning light that has come on is the ABS warning light. If you look at the CV joint which has been removed from your vehicle, you'll see a ring gear that looks like a cog on the widest part of the old CV joint. That cog ring should be carefully removed and then fitted to the new CV joint. That's the rotor which sends an electrical pulse to the ABS system. Without it the Abs system can't work.

Hello. This tends to be all to do with the ABS. Some models have a reluctor ring on each cv joint near the wheel which looks like a castle moulding, but on mine there is a magnetic strip in the wheel bearing and mine corroded which reduced the signal. This caused the abs light and engine management light to come on. Without abs you cannot use the cruise control. It's not an expensive job to replace the bearing or to replace the cv joint if you have the reluctor ring but beware the dealers will try and sell you a whole drive shaft and this is not needed.
