What is the cause of a flat spot while driving

Hi Khalil:
There are two sources that I am aware of:

1) If an emergency stop was made and the tires wire locked up, as the vehicle skidded to a stop, rubber was scrubbed off the tires from friction with the pavement. When trying to drive on these tires, the flat spot will cause a discernable "bump" when impacting the pavement.

2) While not as common, older or inadequately inflated tires on parked vehicles will present a "flat spot" when the vehicle is first used. This will be particularly obvious in cold weather. As the tires warm up while being used, this flat spot circumstance typically cures itself.

Hope this helps.

Yes it is a wheel lock, you need the tool or an air impact gun to get it off.

I have a 2007 toyota Sequoia, this morning I had a flat and got it changed without a problem. As we started to lock up and engage the alarm system we noticed that it would not lock. We then tried to...

I don't know if your car as one, but some cars have the anti theft device rigged to a mercury switch and when it gets jacked up, it shuts down. Also, you have a switch on the fuel pump that shuts down when the car hits something. But if it doesn't crank over, forget that one. If you have another anti theft device besides the one in the car, check it out. I don't know what changing a tire would have done, but something happened. Was your tire shot? I mean with a bullet? Are there any holes in the car? Just a thought. I had a tire shot out once and it took out the engine. Nice guys. 67 chevelle. Check the battery, water and the voltage. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a clunking noise, like the sound you hear when you have a flat tire, Tire isnt flat. turning right on the wheel lessons the sound but stays the same turning left. noise seems to be getting...

its a wheel bearing. .will need to be inspected to determine the correct one. Also tires could also do this if the steel seperated internally. Rotate the suspected tire to see if it follows the tire.

Flat tire due to what mechanic said was a problem with the rear breaks locking.

as if breaks locking up means something wrong with calipers it would wreck your brakes not tires

Try taking a look at your front wheel bearings. Lift the front of the vehicle then grab the tire from the bottom and the top. Push in on the top and pull out on the bottom. If you have a lot of movement then your wheel bearings are bad or need to be tightened. If that does not work I would look into the accumulator for the ABS and it's surrounding switches and relays.

Hello Oliver Plunk :

I would suggest that you go to a " Tire shop" or a " Fix a Flat shop " . They have a special tool that can remove the lug nut wheel locks .

If your problem is with the hub cap locks, the fix a flat shop might still be able to help you .

I would get this fixed as soon as possible . You wouldn't want to have a roadside flat and not be able to change the tire or worse yet, having to be towed while having a spare tire in the trunk .

I hope that this info has been of help to you .
