I can only assume its a manual transmission. Sounds like the clutch isn`t installed correctly, and staying engaged. Recheck the throw out bearing is engaged in the forks correctly, sounds like its not disengaging the clutch. If its an auto then sounds like a problem with the torque converter.

My 87 jeep starter stays ingaged when I try to start it

needs shimmed or the bendix is bad in the starter and not allowing to release. most likely just needs shimmed if it's a new starter, however you can get a bad starter (new or rebuilt)

Check Mazda Service Bulletin 05-016/06.

My car is experiencing this now... the"solution" according to Mazda is to replace a transmission that they knew bad.

I am able to move the gear shift, but the vehicle stays stuck in reverse. When I put the gear shift in R, Drive or any other gear the car does not move or even sound like its ingaging anything.

Maybe the shifter cable. I would look under the car on the drivers side of the transmission, with the wheels blocked, have someone operator the gear shifter and see if it is moving the shift lever on the transmission.

Transmisson ingages in reverse car won't move

your transmission is slipping when its cold. when it warms up the parts inside expand and take up the slack that's caused by the clutches and bands inside being worn. start by checking the trans. fluid level and condition. if it's low, add fluid. if it's brown or black or sparkly, your transmission is junk and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

My transmission slips when putting a load on the engine, shouldn't it go into a safe mode, 2nd gear I think? Could this mean it is computer related?

No, safe mode is when the problem IS computer or electrically-related. Your transmission is slipping - it's a mechanical/fluid problem. You need to take it to a shop ASAP - the slippage generates a lot of heat and that will kill the transmission if you keep driving around like that.
