Coolant Temp Sensor

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy and I've took it to Auto Zone and place on the diagnostic computer because my Service Engine Soon Light came on. It says that it needs a Coolant Temparature Sensor. Does anyone know where this can be located under the hood?

The sensor is located on the drivers side engine block...although you can see if from looking from the top of the engine, you would have to get under the vehicle and look up to replace it. Be aware that it takes a special tool to unscrew the old one and screw in the replacement.

Where is the engine coolant temp sensor on gmc envoy 2004 xuv

More than likely the thermostat is stuck open. You should replace the thermostat and the temp sensor. See picture below for location.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy with 82400 miles. My service engine soon light continuously stays on. I have had it in the shop numerous times and they have run diagnostics. I have had a tune up done, 2 sensors...

You need to let us know what the fault code(s) is. Did anyone ever give this information when they were working on the vehicle? There are many reasons for the check engine light to be turned on.

Service Engine Soon Light has come on

Your going to have to get the Envoy PCM scanned for the DTC codes to address the issue. There are just to many things that can cause your Check engine light to come on. It can range from a faulty gas cap to a faulty O2 sensor.

Good luck and keep us posted, thank you for using fixya.

Code p1680 manufacture control and auxiliary input and output problem

You have to reprogramm the ECM. Here is a bulletin for this problem.
Subject:
Service Engine Soon Light On, P1680 (Reprogram or Replace PCM)

Models:
2004 Buick Rainier
2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer
2004 GMC Envoy
2004 Oldsmobile Bravada
with 4.2L Engine (VIN S - RPO LL8)

Some customers may comment on the Service Engine Soon Light coming on. Upon investigation, the technician may find a P1680 diagnostic trouble codeCheck the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensors using the procedure in the appropriate Service Information for DTC P1680.

If the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensor is within the specifications shown in the Service Information and the vehicle was built prior to the following VIN breakpoints, then reprogram the PCM with the latest calibration.

If the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensor is within the specifications shown in the Service Information and the vehicle was built after the following VIN breakpoints, then replace the PCM. If the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensor is outside the specifications shown in the Service Information, then continue with the diagnostics for DTC P1680.

VIN Breakpoints
• Vehicles built at Oklahoma City Assembly Plant - 46192755
• Vehicles built at Moraine Assembly Plant - 42315833

Hope help with this (remember rated this).

I have a 2005 GMC ENVOY with a sensor reading of 0128 and they said it was my sensor bad. But now i am loosing power going up hill. Does this mean i have another problem? If so what could it be?

PO-128 Coolant Thermostat, Temp Below Regulating Temperature

Leaking or stuck open thermostat
Coolant temp sensor
Cylinder head temp sensor
Engine coolant level

You could have more than one issue

The only way to answer your questions,is to put a scanner on your vehicle, and see what codes you have.
The codes you get,do not indicate a failure, necessarily
You have to follow a diagnostic process,to find any problems.
If you have been going to auto parts stores,to have codes read, and have no knowledge or intension of doing your own work, you need to find a good repair shop, and just have it repaired, fairly soon

Service engine light is on

if its a 6 cylinder the sensor is located on driver side behind the alternator .the sensor alone is about 80-100 dollars. but it is difficult to get to if you dont know what you are doing. the shop should charge you 150 to have this done.

Check Engine Light on 2004 Envoy

Yes this definatly can damage your vehicle, it can cause your head gaskets to blow, you engine to stop running, and some cases you will have no heat, replace the thermastate right away.

Check engine light on - 2003 gmc envoy XL

That code represents a lower than expected reading for temperature (coolant). First thing to do is check your coolant level, as if it is low, then the sensor can not read correctly. Second, you may have a thermostat that is stuck open, allowing the coolant to cool off too much. The sensor should be mounted on top of the engine, near the thermostat housing.
