Question about 1996 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

Not getting power to the coil

I purchased a 1996 neon from a friend who had the car running and I transfered my engine into the vehicle. The engine that I put in was in perfect working condition buy for some reason now the engine will not fire. We have power to the Crank Shaft sensor but we are getting no power for the Spark plugs. Please if you have any ideas or suggestions I'd love to hear them.

What about the camshaft position sensor, coil,ASD relay.etc.Do the key test.Turn key back and forth, back and forth, and wait for codes to come up on dash. This should send you in the direction you need to go to trace the problem.

Why no spark at coil pack

you will have to check for power and ground and reference at the coil pack. if these are good then the coil pack is no good. check for codes in ECM there could be a crank code set. if one of the voltage checks is bad then you will have to find were the lose of voltage is and repair. note the ground for the coil circuit is controlled by the ECM with what is called coil drivers.

Just got a 2001 Lincon Towncar /Exec-L series from a friend. The ABS, Check engine & Brake lights kept coming on & off. Ran codes and got U1039 & P0306. Replaced the #6 Coil and all plugs(P0306...

Congratulations on getting it to run like a champ.

The ABS light is likely due to a bad wheel speed sensor, which would be consistent with the speedometer coming and going.

Try to get an Actron Brakescan Tool for about $99 or so plus shipping, and you can scan the codes and get English explanations of which circuit is bad.

I purchased one to diagnose and repair a 1997 Cadillac Deville. The Actron Brakescan tool covers most American vehicles from 1996 to 2005. So, this diagnosis should be right up the alley of this tool.

One can go from there as far as checking out the sensors and the wiring more closely.

I recently installed a new ignition coil to my 1996 dodge neon .. I was having issues starting the vehicle. Once it was started, it ran beautifully. But it seems when the car sits idle and not running for...

Seems like a resistor or wire leading to the ignition coil may be at fault.

There's a primary and secondary coil in an ignition coil. And, if the coil isn't getting power, then there's no way for the secondary coil to deliver the spark to the spark plugs.

You may want to take it to an auto electric shop if you have trouble tracing why the wire doesn't have power at the primary coils of the ignition coil.

My 96 neon when run for a few miles the speedometer quitss and the engine diesand in about two min it will start and run for a litttle while and die again

your car is more than likely getting a code PO351 or a code 351, sometimes the coil pack is bad but 90 percent of the time its the computer because thats where the #1 coil driver is. u can usually find a used computer for about $50 at a salvage yard. Hope this helps!

Find the pcv valve on a dodge neon 1996

When facing the engine compartment, the pcv valve will be located on the right end of the valve cover. It threads into the cover and will have a rubber hose attached also.

Any further problems, give me a shout.
