Hi, remove the cap from the top of radiator and set aside. Locate thermostat housing on side of engine block. When you are standing in front of the truck, looking at the engine, the thermostat should be on the side of the motor block near the right front.

Follow the hose running from the top of the radiator where it connects to the engine. where it connects to the engine there a two or three bolts holding on the housing remove them, pull the housing away and there is your thermostat

My heater dont work in my 1984 ford ranger

It may be the thermostat is stuck in the open position. If you sit still does it warm up at all. If it gets warm sitting still then cools up when you start moving It could be the thermostat.

What would cause a 1994 Ford Ranger to heat to the L of 'NORMAL' on the gauge after a new thermostat was installed? It has never been past the r/m consistently.

if it is a genuine ford ranger thermostat it should be the same, however if it is an after market one (non genuine ) that may be the problem as thermostats have different "start to open" & "fully open" temperatures......hope this helps......cheers.

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger @WD. The therostat is stuck open and needs to be replaced. I have been told by a Ford shop mechanic taht we willhave to replace the whole housing at a cost of $250+? Does that...

No its not. Drain the system a bit, remove the housing, remove the thermostat, put in the new one, replace the gasket, put the housing back, top up the system.

Replace thermostat in 2000 ford ranger

the open pipe that you took the hose off of is the thermostat housing, you will need to remove this to reveal the thermostat, make sure you use a new gasket with sealant when reinstalling thermostat housing to prevent leaks and dont over tighten the bolts, run both bolts down as far as you can before final tightning
