The same book that I hope you used in setting the ring and pinion backlash will give you the ( Rolling Torque). Once the pinion nut is set, a new crush sleeve will be required to correct. This axel will not go around the block if back lash is not correct.

the answer is not simple , why not read the FSM and unstand it all.

  1. On 1990-98 models, set bearing preload as follows:
    1. The required pinion gear bearing preload torque is 1/2 ft. lbs. over the noted release torque as measured above.
    2. Rotate the pinion gear three or four times with a torque wrench attached to the yoke nut. Measure the amount of torque necessary to rotate the pinion.
    3. Using a holding tool, tighten the yoke nut in small increments and remeasure until the specified torque is obtained.

Front hub torque specs


The torque for the hub bolts is 120 ft. lbs
The torque for the axle nut is 185 ft. lbs.

97 F250 HD Rearend axle bearing retaining nut Torque Spec for used bearings. It is 10.25 sterling rear gear w/ 7.3L diesel eng.


Axle retaining nut torque spec is 55 to 60ft lbs. back off 5(new) or back off 8(used) clicks, and axle retaining bolts 60-80ft lbs in criss cross pattern.

Dana 50 Front Axle

Observe the following torques;

* Left and Right drive axles-to-cross member: 120-150 ft. lbs. (163-203 Nm)

* Axle arm-to-radius arm: 180-240 ft. lbs. (244-325 Nm)

* Coil spring insulator: 30-70 ft. lbs. (41-95 Nm)

* Upper spring retainer: 13-18 ft. lbs. (18-24 Nm)

Observe the following torques;

* Drive shaft-to-flange: 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm)

What are the torque settings for landcruiser hub and axle assembly


This is for the hub....front hub:

  1. Install the hub with a new gasket and tighten the mounting nuts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  2. Install the bolt and washer and tighten it to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  3. Coat the inner hub splines with grease.
  4. Make sure the control handle on the cover is still at FREE (if not automatic), position a new gasket in the cover and install the cover so that the pawl tabs are lines up with the non-toothed portions of the hub body. Tighten the mounting nuts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
This is for the rear hub:

To install:
  1. Place the hub on the axle housing and install the outer bearing.
  2. Install the lock plate with the lock plate tab positioned into the groove of the axle housing.
  3. Install and tighten the adjusting nut with the special tool used during removal.
  4. Torque the nut to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm). Rotate the hub a few times and retorque the adjusting nut to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).
  5. Loosen the adjusting nut until the hub can be turned by hand.
  6. Tighten the nut a small amount and check the amount of pressure required to rotate the hub using a spring tension gauge.
  7. The recommended rotational torque is 5.7-12.6 lbs. (1984-88: 0.9-7.3 lbs.). Tighten or loosen the adjusting nut as required to obtain this reading.
  8. Align one of the axle housing slots with one of the adjusting nut slots. Install the lock screws into the holes of the adjusting nut which are at right angles to the aligned slots. Torque the lock screws to 35-60 inch lbs.
  9. Recheck the rational torque and install the axle shaft using a new gasket.
  10. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle.

How to disassemble the rear end in a 2000 gmc yukon and how to remove axles


Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel and tire assemblies but do not remove the lug nuts
  3. Raise and support the vehicle
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Wheel and tire assemblies
    • Axle lubricant into a suitable container
    • Rear driveshaft
    • Parking brake cable
    • Brake calipers
    • Shock absorbers from the axle brackets
    • Vent hose from the rear axle vent fitting
    • Nuts and the washers from the U-bolts
    • U-bolts, spring plates and spacers from the axle assembly
  5. Lower the axle assembly from the vehicle
To Install:
  1. Place the rear axle assembly under the vehicle
  2. Align the rear axle assembly with the springs then connect the spacers, spring plates and the U-bolts to the rear axle
  3. Raise the rear axle assembly into position
  4. Install or connect the following:
    • Washers and nuts to the U-bolts; Torque to: 59 lb-ft. (80 Nm) then, Torque to: 89 lb-ft. (120 Nm)
    • Vent hose to the rear axle vent fitting
    • Shock absorbers to the rear axle
    • Brake calipers (See: Brake Caliper)
    • Parking brake cable (See: Parking Brake Cable)
    • Rear driveshaft (See: Rear Driveshaft)

  5. Fill the rear axle with lubricant
  6. Bleed the brake system (See: Brake Bleeding)
  7. Install the wheel and tire assemblies
  8. Lower the vehicle to the ground
  9. Torque lug nuts as follows:
    • Single Wheel: Torque to: 140 lb-ft. (190 Nm)
    • Dual Wheel: Torque to: 175 lb-ft. (240 Nm)
  10. Road test the vehicle to check performance

Replaced rear axle pinion bearing and seal, need to know pinion nut torque spec. for aam rear axle 2005 dodge 3500 4x4 Thanks.


There is no torque specs,this nut has to be tightened back like it was ,the best thing to do,was,to late now,is to use a torque wrench to remove the nut,and remember the torque,and when replacing it,torque it back to that spec,the reason being,there is a crush sleeve between the front pion bearing ,and the rear pinion bearing,and it has to be crushed to a certain amount,to aquire deepness into the ring gear,anyway just give it about 25 lbs torque,any more the crush sleeve will crush even more and the deepness of the pinion will be too much.

Removal & Installation

Remove or disconnect the following:
  • Brake hose bracket screw from the control arm
  • Shock absorber lower bolt while using a utility stand to support the rear axle
  • Tie rod from the rear axle
  • Spring and insulators after lowering the rear axle

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Insulators and springs on the rear axle with the paint stripe is facing rearward
    • Rear axle tie rod after raising the rear axle into its proper position. Torque the nut to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).
    • Shock absorbers to the rear axle. Torque the upper and lower nuts to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
    • Brake hose bracket to the control arm. Torque the bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  2. Remove the axle supports.
