what is the car?
does it have a lock up torque converter for final gear
torque converter is stuck in final drive, lock up or direct drive
you can un plug direct drive to get it going

do you mean a Lock-up torque converter ? if so yes ford made electrically lockable torque converters since 94 ( all torque converters are hydraulic activated ,lock-up is proformed using a electric solenoid ) , but only certain transmissions made by ford had them , decode your vin number on left corner of dash to determine if you have E4od transmission or 4a400 model these have solenoid
I ask this because to my knowledge only race cars use a LOck out converter (aka "transbrake") for very high hp startss

On some Honda vehicles the P0740 code may be set by an overheating torque converter problem which is caused by an insufficient flow to the torque converter release circuit.

P0740 Honda Description
The torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4, by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the vehicle speed and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Lock-up piston operation will then be controlled. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, the torque converter lockup clutch will engage creating a 1 to 1 RPM ratio between the transmission input shaft and the rotational speed of the torque converter.
Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 2/8) in lock-up condition, the engine speed should not change abruptly. If there is a big jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.

No idea its a auto or a granny box as they are known here in spain ,now to the un initiated mainly myself the torque converter clutch is mystifying as the only clutch in a auto box from my college days 40+yrs ago was the front clutch which has to engage before the gearbox will work and the front pump is driven by the input shaft from the converter which provides the pressure to work the gearbox brain and operate the pistons that lock the clutch and gears into place ,but ? iam old and no one wants my old fashioned time warp technology anymore

the torque converter is locked in over drive mode either the torque converter is bad or solenoid on trans valve body is faulty but there is a plug on driver side of trans usually its white on gm if you un plug it your stalling problem will go away but so will over drive just uses more gas when speed above 45 isn achieved

Check your brake lights, I bet they don't work.

Your issue is the Lock-UP torque converter is not un-locking when you depress the brakes (or let up on the accelerator), which it SHOULD DO.

Check you fuses first, then the "BOO" (brake on-off) switch on the pedal under the dash. Sometimes the wire breaks at the switch connector.

You have to be very careful with input shaft rings. They like to eat into the pump stater. Also always buy new vb don't buy rebuilt because they only work 2 out of 5 times. I know this for experience
