The diaphram in the vacuum power brake assist unit is probably bad. Unit will have to be replaced. That may or may not take care of the low brake pedal issue. If not that problem will have to be diagnosed once the vacuum problem is solved.

Hissing sound brake related

hissing sound is a vacuum leak somewhere on the power assist part of the system as in a bad booster..try this test..with the car off..push the brake pedal down a few times and release all the vacumm and see how far the pedal goes down..after a few pumps with your foot it should become hard and drop just a bit..once it feels"solid' or hard..hold the pedal down with moderate pressure.. and start the car back up..the pedal should drop a bit further but less than halfway.. if it drops further it needs attention..good luck especially if it goes almost to the floor..

1996 Buick Park Avenue Ultra making a hissing noise when I press Brake Pedal. Have to Press super hard to stop or slow down.

Sounds like a possible air pocket in the braking system. Do you know how the bleed the brakes? They may need to be bled. Also, if you've added brake fluid recently, and didn't put the cap back on, it could create a suction. Another note is to check the cap to the brake fluid reservoir. It's rare, but, it could be bad.

Why would my brakes hiss when I step on them and cause the engine to rev up when I do this? It also makes the vehicle very hard to stop.

It sounds like your brake booster is leaking. The air hissing is the air going into the leak. This extra air goes into the engine and causes the engine to rev up. The booster is what makes it easy to push the brake, (when it is working correctly) which is why the pedal is hard to push.

What is the sympton for bad break booster.i am confused--will the brake pedal be hard to push down or way to easy to push to floor. i have hissing sound in warm weather near brake pedal but not in cold...

Hello rickyjkoch: My name is Roger and I will help with your question. With the engine off, press the brake pedal down several times. Hold the pedal down and start the engine. The brake pedal should drop 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches toward the floor. If the pedal stays up and does not drop the booster has a problem. However if you hear a hissing sound from the dash area of the brake pedal the booster should be replaced. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Brakes go to the floor when car is running and shut off thier are no leaks in the lines at all we have tried bleeding

if brakes have no air in system, then it may be a faulty power brake booster. run for about 3 or4 minutes then shut it off. listen carefully while pushing brake pedal slowly, listen for a hissing sound of air escaping. the sound is a low pitched sound.

94 s10 chevy 2wd brake pedal fades to floor before stoping

Might check around the big black round muffin shaped chamber adjacent to the master cylinder for a loose vacuum hose or crack therin; the hissing sound seems likely to be the air rushing in as you loose the vacuum that supplies the power to assist your braking effort (power brakes)---as this goes, so goes your peddle until it reaches the actual piston pushing the brake fluid (which should be firm like with non-power brakes).
...maybe have an assistant push on the peddle while you listen with a piece of hose or a stethescope to find the leak (or I suppose the power unit diaphragm could be shot/leaking--hence replacement), but since you said after bumpy road etc, one could hope for a simple dislodged vacuum hose or fixable crack.

Brake hisses under the dash when i step on the brake pedal

this is caused by a defective leaking vacuum (that is the hiss) power brake booster diaphragm, replace the power brake booster.Use the link below for general instructions on replacing your booster, it is a diff car but the same type of part is on your car.

Sounds like it could well be the brake servo unit.

1994 ford explorer will not stop, I have replaced the brake pads,

My vote would be the Master Cylinder.
I had a truck sit for 4 years. After getting running again, it did the same thing you're describing. No brakes. I ended up replacing the Master Cylinder to fix the problem. Just make sure you bleed the system real good.
