Just purchased OEM cross rails used (no instructions). How do I install them?

The car came with a roof rack. The part I purchased goes across the roof (from side to side) and connect to the roof rack. I have a total of four pieces. Two (from photos I've seen) appear to support the rack by having the rails go through them. The cross bar section hooks into these parts. I hope this will give you a bit more detail.

I own a 2007 Hyundai Tucson and recently bought a set of cross rails from a used 2007 Tucson to add support to my roof rack and enable me to tie on a roof bag. They came with no installation instructions and I am unable to figure out how to attach them. The bars I purchased run across the width of the car. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have four pieces. Two look like a support through which the side rail goes through. How are these attached to the roof rack? Do you have any ideas?
By rear cover, do you mean the part holding the roof rack on the car. I'm not sure where I would begin to pry it off. Thanks.

I appreciate your help, but these are not the same rails. I have two support pieces that look to have the rail (the one from front to rear) slip through it and the cross rails fit into it.

Find the notch in the rear of each cover and pry up covers

Open the lever on one side of front and rear cross bar.

Gently set the cross bar, with arrows facing forward, into the channel of the side rails

To adjust cross bars, open a lever and place cross bars in desired location.

Close lever

Reinstall rear covers by inserting front tab and snapping into place

I did some research. The crossbars that are sold have clamps that can be secured by allen screws. There should be around 28 screws with corresponding washer for each for the entire kit.

What do you mean cross rails? there is no part named this on the Hyundai. some times we tend to call something because that is what someone else called it, if you tell me were the cross rails go or what they are suppose to do i might be able to figure out what you have.

Is the cross member under the load

cross members are the chassis members that tie the side frame rails together. There will be one at the front and another at the centre of the chassis and one at the rear . There is a bolt in cross member at the rear of the gear box (rear engine mount). Most modern cars are uni-construction (that is the body is complete and the front section will have a front cross member and the sub-frame rails will be bolted under the body around the front door pillars and onto the fire wall.. IN heavy vehicles there is a front cross member the carries the front engine mount another after the gear box to carry the cabin mounts and then a member every 3-4 feet to the end of the chassis rails . Their only purpose is to tie the chassis rails together.

We purchased a set of universal cross bars for our Hyundai Santa Fe roof rack off Amazon.com. However, there were no installation instructions included. Any ideas?

Contact Amazon.com or the product manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer may have a website where you can download the instructions.

I purchased a Hyundai 00285-03006 fully enclosed luggage carrier and the instructions are one picture with no words. The picture does not describe where the carrier is in the picture, where the rails fit...

That same luggage carrier is sold (as OEM approved equipment) for MANY different makes and models of automobiles. From what I can see, it simply clamps onto the cross-rails on your luggage rack. (Not much instruction needed) It does require however, that you have a luggage rack and a cross-rail kit. The cross-rail kit is sold separately. I would give you the part number, but the cross-rail kit varies depending on your make, model, and year.

I just rebuilt the transmission in my 1999 Dodge Durango. Getting the trans mount cross member out was a chore but now it seem that the cross member is about 1.5 " longer than it was when I took it out. ...

The frame rails move in when you remove the crossmember. I put a port a power between the frame rails to remove and install the crossmembers on dodge trucks.

I need to remove the luggage racks from my 2007 Hummer h2 SUT

I have the same vehicle and was able to remove mine with the following steps: 1) remove light behind each rear of luggage rack rail using phillips screwdriver (one screw each side). 2) remove molding underneath each light using T20 torx driver (2 screws each side). 3) Loosen cross rails nobs. 4) Side cross rails off of roof.

My 2004 GMC Yukon has a roof rack, but came without cross pieces. I purchased some that fit, but cannot get them on. Can you guide me to a manual with instructions to install them?

Everything I'm reading indicates there are "rack fitment points" where you will have the room to insert the cross bars. I'd get a tall ladder and look carefully along the entire rail and maybe feel with your fingers for a point that is slightly different. That should be the place you can insert the slats.

    Hey all,
I was able to get installation instructions for the cross bars from http://www.capitolhyundai.com and from http://dealerfit.com.  Thanks much to these folks for providing a pdf of these instructions free of charge!
Below is the text from the instruction set that worked best for me.  The other instruction set was nearly identical but it had an alternate Step 2 which involved using a small plastic pry bar.  I added that alternate Step below in the instruction step.  Hopefully I'm able to insert the image of each instruction set so that the Figures are visible.  Its actually not that easy getting the rear rail covers off and its pretty easy to crack them.  I'd recommend gently rocking the covers for a couple minutes in order to loosen them up.  Once you get the covers off, the rest of the install is a breeze and can be done in 2 minutes.  If you have questions, go ahead and contact me.  I also took several photos of my install and that might be helpul.  Cheers!

    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Carefully unscrew and remove radio antenna. 2. Grasp the rear rail covers with both hands. Squeeze and pull up & inwards (toward the center of the vehicle) to remove covers. Take care not to break off the tabs by lifting the rear section of the cover first (Figure 1). Be careful not to scratch, damage or dent any painted surfaces. DO NOT PRY AGAINST THE VEHICLE BODY, THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. 2. - Alternate Method - Locate notch in rear of each cover to insert plastic pry bar.  Remove cover by prying up (with tool) and lifting rear at 45 degree angle (Fig 1). Be careful not to scratch, damage or dent any painted surfaces. DO NOT PRY AGAINST THE VEHICLE BODY, THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. 3. Check assembly clips for damage and dislocation. Replace if necessary. 4. Open the lever on one side of front/rear cross bar. Gently set the cross bar, with the arrows facing forward, into the channel of the side rails (Figure 2). Guide both sides into the track. 5. To adjust cross bars, open lever and place cross bars in desired location. Close lever (Figure 3). Try to move bars forward/back until they lock into place. 6. Reinstall rear covers by holding cover at a 45 degree angle and inserting the front tab into the rear of the roof rack. After aligning, snap cover in place (Figure 4). Be sure that the rubber lip does not interfere with the covers, and that the covers are fully seated. 7. Reinstall the radio antenna. Note: To remove the cross bars, remove the antenna, remove the covers, open lever of cross bar and slide to end of rail. Hold down locking fingers (on both RH/LH rear rail supports) with a flat head screwdriver (Figure 5). This will allow removal of cross bars from the rails.
