Question about Chevrolet Aveo

1 Answer

I have a chevy 2006 aveo 4 door sedan. I have heard that there has been ongoing issues with the sensors in the passenger side air bags. Recently, my passenger airbag icon has been on and the "check engine" light has come on. A message also says"passenger side airbag off".Is it safe for my 100lb daughter to sit in the passenger side? Is there a way to manually turn off the passenger side airbag and just have her sit in back .I love my chevy aveo and have never had any problems with it...... Please advise!

On my 2006 Chevrolet Aveo the passenger side airbag light is on unless an adult occupies the seat. Can you provide a solution? Thanks, Zaki

Check your owners manual but on many vehicles it will illuminate a light indicating to the driver or occupants that the passenger air bag is off. The air bag module uses sensors in the seat to determine when it is appropriate and safe for the air bags to be used in the event of a collision. This may be normal operation of the restraint system. You'll need to reference the manual to be sure.

Is it a 2009 or a 2005 do not mess with the air bag system unless you really know what you are doing.
I have found that this usually the sdm (the main module for the air bag system). Really needs to go to the dealer.
