This may be a really not good deal. There is a small hose that goes from the engine to the coolant reservoir, be sure it is open.
What happens on your car is head gasket failure, it is extremely expensive to fix correctly. The issue isthe head bolts, where they bolt into the aluminum block. The threads fail and the head gets slightly released under load. Test for exhaust in the cooling system.
What happens is the exhaust pushes coolant out, the heater stops heating (first clue) and then you can get overheat. What you get us coolant consumption and no real answer where it is going, but it is going on the street.

Typically it will cost 5 to 7 grand to fix correctly. DO NOT just replace the head gaskets, the problem will persist. The repair for the head stud is similar to a time-cert.To install the new threads, you have to put the bare engine block on the machinists bench. This step runs 800 to 1000.... nothing else works, but after you have done this step, you can expect longevity.

You would think that GM would know about critical threads in aluminum, I find the need for the repair annoying, as it should not be necessary, ever.

Thermastat and water pump changed but still overheating. why?

Could be a few things. Blockage in the radiator, blown headgasket, bad fan. Need to check for those or get a shop to have a look.

Don't know what to do.

Have you checked the rad to see if you are getting good antifreeze circulation. You may need a new water pump if the circulation is poor. Check to see if all you rad fins are tight & in good shape. It could be the radiator is losing it's efficiency & may need replacement. Hope this helps you. Good luck!
