Question about 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

BnOur 2001 Chevy Silverado is stuck in low lock 4 wheel drive and maximum speed is 8 mph. Does the computer have to be reset or is there something else we can do. Right in the middle of hauling brush from a land clearing job. Thanks!

The problem could be a number of things from the dash switch to the encoder motor on the transfer case. Try turning the truck off for a few seconds, then turn it on - don't start it, try switching it to 4wd hi. you shoul'd hear the transfer case motor trying to switch gears., if you don't hear that then check the fuse under the hood for that system. If the fuse is good, then crawl under and see if you damaged the wires to the transfer case.
Good luck.

2001 Chevy Silverado anti-lock brakes activate on dry pavement, the pedal pulsates, the typical anti-lock brake sound is heard, and the truck feels like it is not going to stop at times

One of the sensors has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing to that would also do that is the ABS sensor is dirty or needs to be re gaped to the speed ring on the hub. There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. Abs problem on 2001 4 wheel drive 1/2 ton chevrolet silverado pickup

I have this same problem with my 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I found a recall on a website that said there were 1,353,718 other trucks with this same problem (no, that's not a typo). Do not ask the people at Chevy to uphold to this recall because I was turned down when I informed them about the problem. Anyway, the explanation for the problem is the wheel speed sensor mounting surface has rust and corrosion (especially in areas who have roads that get salted a lot) on it that moves the actual wheel speed sensor away, creating the thought of an icy condition. If you or a mechanic has the area cleaned, the sensor will go back to its original position, thus fixing the problem.
