Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. How long has it been since you have had a tune up? You may need spark plugs/coils, wires, new distributor cap, coil pack. Even though it seems like it is a fuel issue, your measurements look fine. With the exception of a fuel filter, I would think it could be in the ignition system.

Have you tried to get any codes off your computer? Have you checked for any vacuum leaks?

OK. It could be a fault in the engine control system. It could also be a problem in the EGR system. You might want to check the EGR pipe and make sure it is not clogged.

The engine control unit is the last resort. This is your computer. The EGR is the engine gas recirculation. It can do it at high speeds, really throughout the speed range. You might want to check the EGR valve as well. This should be your next move. All kinds of emissions and build up get into the EGR system and it clogs it up.

You are right. If it is clogged, it will not. You get codes for the EGR for the flow, but it doesn't always pick them up, especially in older model vehicles.

I am getting ready to go to work now. It will be 8 hours before I am back. Make sure to check the EGR valve and system. It could be because of a clog or emissions. Make sure that you have no loose connections. If may be a problem with the computer, but that is last resort. I am thinking it may be a bad fuel injector. Not for sure though.

SOURCE: when i accelerate motor hesitates like starving

Could be dirty fuel injectors. solution: pour fuel additive such as SeaFoam or Lucas injector cleaner in the gas and drive.

Ignition timing could be off. Check timing.

OR, could be throttle position sensor is going bad. If cleaning the injectors doesn't fix it, then the sensor is going out and needs to be replaced.

Starves for fuel on acceleration and wont idle right

Gas problem, likely. Have your fuel pressure tested. Fuel pump or filter may be the problem.

5.0 tpi car will start and idle but when you give it gas it hesitates to accelerate

Try some injector cleaner (Techron). If that doesn't help, check fuel pressure. The fuel pump or filter may not allow pressure to get to specs.
It also could be a mis-calibrated Throttle Position Sensor.
Good luck.

Just changed map sensor fuel filter idle control valve and when you press the gas it hesitates like its bn starved think its a bad injector all the vac lines are connected checked relays still having probs...

check the fuel pressure and volume with a gage and check to specs.it could be a bad tps sensor.if it was a bad injector it would run rough and not feel like its starving for gas.it could be that all the injectors are dirty and need to be cleaned or if too dirty replaced.

If the oxygen sensors have not been recently replaced, a new one should be installed. Also, perform a fuel pump pressure test. Clean fuel injection system including throttle bore, idle speed control motor and passages. If the problem still exists, scan the computer for trouble codes.
also check if Mass Air Flow Senor is operating below were it should. This condition gives you low power, replace to recheck system.

1998 beetle will start and idle, but will die when accelerated

When was the last time you had your fuel filter replaced ?? Sounds like the engine may be starved for gas because of a clogged fuel filter. If you have no record of having been replaced, this may be the least expensive place to begin, but be careful the quick disconnects on the fuel filter can be difficult to push in. Also, the fuel lines will be pressurized when they are disconnected, and could spray gas into your face if your not careful. If you damage the disconnects on the fuel lines you will need to have the lines replaced, so be gentle.

Flat at acceleration, wont idle

Check the fuel filter to make sure it is not pluged up, also check fuel presure, if its ok you possibly have a pluged cat. converter.
