Question about 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88

1 Answer

I have a 1985 oldsmobile delta 88 Royale that I purchased from a older lady. She took excellent care of the car. It has 47,343 miles on it. Almost mint condition. The problem that I am having (two things) is that after driving the car for about 25-35 miles and I come to a turn to where I have to slow down to 10-12mph to make.....when I begin to accelerate again, the trans does not kick down to 1st or 2nd gear unless I press the pedal down to the floor. The tv cable is perfect...changed out trans fluid and filter. Still no change. Second thing is in the summer time when turn the ac on, after a while the car wants to die out.....and if it does....it's very hard to re-start. Engine will have more than normal heat coming off of it.......??????? Please Help

As far as tranny check or replace the speed control on the tranny. There should be an inner and outer.the second sounds like a temp control module.

Hard to say on a older car such as this. If running well and healthly it should receive around 16 to 18 highway miles per gallon

85 88 royale. Last summer replaced 1 of the valve

She should still have some life left in her. The water pump isn't too hard to replace, really no special tools needed. When motors get around that mileage, they will use some oil and have some leaks. As the engine wears, blow by developes and will cause gaskets to leak. I would also check the PCV valve.

Need schematics for 1989 delta 88 royale steering column

steering columns are tricky bastards, even with schematic they are difficult ton rebuild, my advise is to carefully dissassemble and make notes, i have done many and you need patience, they only go back together one way and sometimes require installation of may parts at once and only in the proper order, have fun

1989 delta 88 royale 4 dr sedan; the headliner is sagging, this car has never been wrecked and has only 40000 miles onit

Best bet would be an auto upholstery shop. The dealers can work on them, but I would go with the guy with everyday experience. In the worst case, if you had to replace the headliner, you could have a choice of fabrics and colors.
If anyone can fix your old one they can.
