Question about Mitsubishi Minivan

1 Answer

I had been saving for a toyota noah or nissan serena but things changed and i ended up recently purchasing an ex japan mitsubishi chariot, 1998 2.4L grandis with 78000kms. everything is normal now except that the exhaust has black sooth in it. i have a ford expedition 5.4L with 185000kms and its exhaust is a cream - light to dark brown colour. in both the chariot and the expedition what could this be a sign of? i would also like to know is did i make a good choice considering 80% of the people i ask from diagnostics experts, car dealers and mechanics say that it not a good car. toyota or nissan is far better.i havent heard from drive of this gem yet but clearly its widely held that they cannot be repaired once they start to give problems. shall i quickly sell? please help as im worried about this beauty.

Everything is repairable if the parts and expertise are available, just not always viable.
The problems we see here with this model is idle low and stalls caused by dirty throttle body and air flow sensor. This should be the GDI model.they should run very lean.
Sooty exhaust can be caused by a few areas singularly or combined.
Faulty or dirty oxygen sensor.
Warn spark plugs(this model usually has iridium or platinum that should do 60-80,000km).
Blocked/dirty air filter.
Weak spark from the coil(s)
Poor fuel grade
Incorrect timing or knock sensor faulty.
Injectors dirty(not so common).
worn/tired engine(not yours if the kms correct)
Catalyic convertor fault
Thermostat too cold or stuck open
Engine temp too low or sensor fault for coolant signal to ECU
Hope this helps you

Interesting i have a chariot in Kenya just had an engine overhaul, however i am considering a complete engine change any ideas where i can get a new engine or an engine i can interchange

Chariot (aka was in three generations, each with multiple choices of engine. Mitsubishi Space Wagon, Mitsubishi Nimbus and Mitsubishi Expo, Dodge and Plymouth Colt Vista Wagon, Eagle Vista Wagon, Hyundai Santamo and Mitsubishi Savrin
Be careful to get the right engine for your vehicle.
You can try Powertrain Products, remanufactured engines, they may ship to Kenya and have good prices. (not sure why you want to swap an overhauled engine for another one, but that's your business.)

Own a nissan serena, brain box got damage due to the ground to the engine broke off. bought a brain box or computer if so you may call it. But we have been trying to program it and can get the right code....

my name is Francis and i own a Nissan Serena Rider S Autotech 2006 model and c25 engine mr20. I did engine wash and thereafter the engine started jacking and the lights on dashboard i.e. 'P' 'R' 'N' 'D' 'L' disappeared immediately. we decided to use pressure to get rid of water on sensor and two computer boxes and finally the 'P' 'R' 'N' 'L' but 'D' light failed. since then the car lacked drive power and when i engage the car to drive, it keeps showing "N" despite and no driver power.

Please advice what could be the problem with my car and would appreciate so much for any help i may get somebody somewhere.

Kind regards,
