Question about Hyundai Motor 2003 Elantra

Ks@cableone.netThe locks on three doors are controlled by actuation of the driver door locks. Currently the other 3 doors will unlock when the driver door is unlocked, but will not lock when the driver door is locked. Which component should be checked and where is it located?

There is an actuator in the drivers door that controls the locking system. Change it.

2005 Buick Rendezvous you can hear the relay clicking but the door locks will not open and close


Check for broke wires inside the boot from body to driver door , this is a common problem . If you don't find broke wire's , pull the door panel to get at driver door switch . Check for voltage an ground circuit .

Door Lock and Unlock Operation
When a door lock switch is activated in the lock or unlock position the BCM will receive a voltage signal on either the door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuits.
The BCM, upon receipt of a lock switch lock or unlock signal, will switch the appropriate lock relay control circuit(s) to battery positive voltage. This will energize the appropriate lock or unlock relay(s). The relay will supply voltage to the door lock actuator lock or unlock control circuits to one side of the lock actuator. Since the opposing side of the lock actuators are connected to ground through the other lock actuator control circuit and the normally closed contacts of the lock or unlock relay, the doors and liftgate will then lock or unlock appropriately.
Three relays are used to operate the lock. Driver door unlock, passenger door unlock and all door lock. This is done to isolate the driver door lock actuator so it can be unlocked by itself using the keyless entry transmitter.
Your door locks are controlled by the BCM - body control module (a computer ) . An a scan tool is a must to diagnose system operation . Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop . The only way you could try to fix this is by changing parts ! Suppose you find an replace a door lock/ unlock relay an that doesn't fix it ? There could be DTC'S stored in the BCM . Do you know what a DTC is ?

My hatch won't release from the remote or the door switch. No solenoid sound at the hatch. How do I get it to open if it's not a bad fuse?


There are actually three relays , an there are controlled by the BCM - body control module !
When a door lock switch is activated in the lock or unlock position the BCM will receive a voltage signal on either the door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuits.
The BCM, upon receipt of a lock switch lock or unlock signal, will switch the appropriate lock relay control circuits to battery positive voltage. This will energize the appropriate lock or unlock relays. The relay will supply voltage to the door lock actuator lock or unlock control circuits to one side of the lock actuator. Since the opposing side of the lock actuators are connected to ground through the other lock actuator control circuit and the normally closed contacts of the lock or unlock relay, the doors and liftgate will then lock or unlock appropriately.
Three relays are used to operate the locks. DRV DR UNLCK relay, PASS DR UNLOCK and DR LCK relay. This is done to isolate the driver door lock actuator so it can be unlocked by itself using the keyless entry transmitter.
Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation
The liftgate can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel. Battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the liftgate actuator when a release input is received through the key fob, or the instrument panel switch.
Door/Lift gate Latch Assembly
  1. Install a 20-A fused jumper wire between the control terminal 3 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between the ground terminal 2 and ground.
  2. Verify the actuator turns on & off.

Why does my 2004 Chevy Silverado lock and unlock while in drive? When turned off and no keys in ignition the drivers door will unlock on its own a short time later.

The front power door lock switches are integral components of the driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM). The switches are two position normally open rocker switches. When placed in either the lock or unlock positions, the switches provide a direct input to the DDM or PDM. The DDM or PDM monitors these inputs and sends a Class 2 message indicating a change in the switch's respective position. Modules which activate the power door lock motors receive the Class 2 message and activate the motor in the appropriate direction to lock or unlock the vehicle's doors and liftgate. The rear door lock switch provides a lock and unlock signal to the body control module (BCM). The BCM upon receipt of a lock or unlock signal will control the rear door lock relays and also send a Class 2 message to the DDM and PDM to perform the appropriate function.
The modules which activate the power lock motors are:

The DDM (driver door lock actuator).

The PDM (passenger front door lock actuator).

?€¢
The BCM (both rear door lock actuators and cargo door/liftgate).
The DDM and PDM are directly connected to the respective door lock actuator through the door lock motor lock and unlock circuits. Once a door lock or unlock request has been received, the module will supply battery voltage to one side of the actuator and ground the other causing the doors to lock or unlock.
The rear passenger and cargo doors differ slightly in that they use lock and unlock relays. The relays supply and coil sides receive a constant voltage through the battery voltage supply circuit. The normally closed contacts are connected to ground and the control side is connected to the BCM. Once a door lock or unlock request has been received by the BCM, the BCM will ground the control side of the appropriate relay. This energizes the relay and allows voltage to be applied to either the door lock motor lock or unlock circuits. since the other side of the door lock actuator is connected to the normally closed contacts of the opposing relay to ground, the doors lock or unlock.
The first place to start is have a factory or equivalent scan tool hooked up , one that can read BCM DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! This could lead to a fix faster ! Watch these three videos !

Passenger door locks don't unlock.


You need to understand how they work , do you know about automotive electronic controls ? Your switches are just inputs to the BCM - body control module !
Door Locks Power and Ground
For door lock operation, the IP Fuse Block supplies battery positive voltage, through the 15 amp DR LK/TRUNK fuse, to the BCM. The BCM uses this circuit exclusively to apply power to the door lock actuators. The BCM is also supplied a ground circuit, which it uses exclusively to ground the door lock actuators. When a door lock is pulsed, the BCM internally connects these two circuits to the appropriate lock and unlock control circuits to actuate the locking or unlocking functions.
When diagnosing door lock malfunctions, these circuits must not be confused with the other battery voltage and ground circuits of the BCM. The appropriate wiring schematic must be used to locate the correct circuits. Failure to identify the correct battery voltage and ground circuits of the BCM during diagnosis of door lock concerns may result in misdiagnosis and unneccessary parts replacement.
Passenger Door Unlock Operation
When the BCM detects a transition of either of the door lock switches to the Unlock position, it switches the door lock actuator unlock control circuits to voltage. Since the door lock actuator lock control circuit is at ground potential within the BCM, the passenger door lock actuators transition to the Unlock position.
The door lock actuator unlock control circuits are dedicated control circuits used only for the passenger door lock actuators. This is done so that the driver door may be unlocked individually before unlocking the passenger doors using a keyless entry transmitter or an automatic door unlock function, if programmed. When the keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the passenger doors, the BCM requires a repeated unlock command before it performs the unlock function. However, when the unlock input is from a door lock switch, a single unlock command is all that is required to unlock all doors.

2008 Chevy Impala LTZ: car wont lock or unlock with the power lock/unlock buttons on the remote or car door. It makes a clicking sound though when I attempt to. Is this a blown fuse? Or something else


Where do you here the clicking sound ? in the door , behind instrument panel ? I don't think a blown fuse would do this , possibly a relay ! do you know what a relay is ? This is Chevy factory service information !

Circuit/System Description
The DR/LCK fuse supplies battery positive voltage to the I/P fuse block for the door lock system. The body control module (BCM) supplies and monitors a reference voltage to the door lock switch through the door lock switch lock/unlock signal circuit. The door lock switch also receives a constant ground source. If a door lock switch is placed in the lock position or unlock position, the reference voltage is taken directly to ground and the BCM detects the voltage drop on the signal circuit.
The BCM, upon receipt of a door lock switch lock or unlock signal, will switch the appropriate door lock actuator control circuits to battery positive voltage. The opposing side of the door lock actuators are connected to ground internally within the BCM through the other door lock actuator control circuit and the doors will lock or unlock appropriately.
With out have a factory GM tech 2 scan tool ,It would be best if you took this to a Chevy dealer . The first part of diagnosing this problem is to hook up a scan tool !

Door lock dont always work


What door lock doesn't always work ? One or all of them . This is a complex set up for these door locks ! The switch is an input to the BCM - body control module . There is logic involved in the microprocessor , there are relays built in to the BCM ! Could have a DTC - diagnostic trouble code stored in the BCM ! Could be a bad connection at the BCM or master window switch ! A bad ground !

The DR LCK fuse supplies battery voltage to the body control module (BCM) for the power door lock system. The BCM supplies and monitors a reference voltage to the driver and passenger door lock switches through the door lock switch lock/unlock signal circuit. Each door lock switch receives ground at G300 which is also the ground for the door lock and unlock relays located in the BCM. When a door lock switch is placed in the lock position, the reference voltage is switched to ground and the BCM senses 0.0 volts on the door lock/unlock signal circuit. When a door lock switch is placed in the unlock position, the reference voltage is switched to ground through a 1.5k ohm resistor that is internal to each of the door lock switches and the BCM senses approximately 2.9 volts on the door lock/unlock signal circuit. The BCM interprets what position the activated door lock switch was placed in based on the voltage drop.
The BCM, upon receipt of a lock or unlock switch signal, will switch the appropriate door lock/unlock relay coil control circuit to ground causing the appropriate door lock/unlock relay to energize. With the relay energized, voltage is applied to the door lock actuator control circuit causing the door to either lock, or unlock depending on what command was received from the power door lock switch or remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). When a power door lock/unlock relay is not energized, the switch contacts are normally grounded through the BCM which provides ground to the appropriate door lock actuator for the lock/unlock function being performed. The power door lock/unlock functions are performed by reversing the flow of voltage through the door lock actuator control circuits. The BCM has three internal drivers for the power door lock system. Driver door unlock, passenger door unlock and all door lock. This is done to isolate the driver door lock actuator so it can be unlocked separately from the passenger door. For additional information concerning keyless entry, refer to Keyless Entry System Description and Operation.
This is one you may want to take to dealer or some other ASE certified repair shop ! To do this right you need a Tech 2 scan tool !
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Door Lock Switch parameter while using the driver and passenger door lock switches. The parameter should change from Idle to Lock and Unlock.

If the value does not change, refer to Door Lock Switch Malfunction.

Command the doors to LOCK and UNLOCK with the scan tool, the door lock actuators should LOCK and UNLOCK when changing between the commanded states.

It's probably a bad input to the BCM - body control module ! Have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .
The automatic door lock function can only be enabled by the body control module (BCM) if the driver door open switch and door ajar switches are in the Closed state. For information on programming the automatic door locks, refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.

Your best bet , take it to the chevy dealer . Unless you own a GM factory Tech 2 scan tool an have access to factory sevice repair info.

The outputs to the door lock actuators are controlled by the body control module (BCM). When the BCM receives a lock input from a door lock switch, or a keyless entry transmitter, it applies battery positive voltage to the door lock actuator lock control circuit, a ground to the door lock actuator unlock control, and the driver door lock actuator unlock control circuits. When the BCM receives an unlock input from a door lock switch, it applies battery positive voltage to the door lock actuator unlock control, the driver door lock actuator unlock control circuits, and a ground to the door lock actuator lock control circuit . When the BCM receives an single Unlock input from a keyless entry transmitter, it applies battery positive voltage to the driver door lock actuator unlock control circuit and a ground to the door lock actuator lock control circuit to unlock the driver door. A second Unlock input from the transmitter applies battery positive voltage to the door lock actuator unlock control circuit, and a ground to the door lock actuator lock control circuit to unlock the passenger doors.

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:
• DTC B3128 Left Front/Driver Door Unlock Circuit High
• DTC B3133 All Door Unlock Circuit High
• DTC B3138 All Door Lock Circuit High

No electric power to left door Fuse and relay are good


Check the wire lume that runs from the body to the door inside a rubber bellow. the wires can break from constant moving and I'm not sure what vehicle you have, but this is a defect for a few vehicles out there the wire can be to short in some cases from cost saving manufacturing. It may be necessary to remove the door panel and remove the harness through the wire opening to be able to move the boot far enough to access the broken wire or even just to check it in some cases.
How I like to repair it, is to put a new wire through the entire pivot point and join it inside the door and body where the wire does not move constantly.
