SOURCE: Smoke

  1. Sometimes the steam from under the hood, because it is over heat.

  1. Check the water hose include the heater hose, it is a smaller hose behind the engine on the top near the back of the hood, find out which hopes is leaking.

  1. If the hose is OK, check the freeze plug on the engine, because if the engine is too old, maybe the plug was rust and leaking, when it’s leaking, the engine is hot, you will see the steam under the hood.

  1. When engine is hot, you have to be very carefully, do not open the water cap, if you want to open, you have to either wait a while or use a heavy towel to cover the radiator cap, then open it.

  1. Maybe the radiator is leaking.
I hope this can help you a little bit. good luck.

SOURCE: white tail smoke, both temp gauges (oil/engine)

Alright there your on the money there. A4 audi's and The 2liter golfs do haed gaskets at around 145-150,000 miles. the oil's foamy kinda yellowie cream. Tip for ya When you do the head gasket cahnge the rad and water pump at the same time. Mine didthe same it's costly but worth it for piece of mind, Plus is the only time you get to the water pump apart from changing the timing belt.

SOURCE: Smoke comes from around engine

If you saw where the oil came out then that is the repair needed. It may not leak enough oil to get to the ground. Engine temp will make the oil leak smoke before it ever hits the ground. It may be valve cover gaskets because when they start to leak the oil gets all over the exhaust manifold and the exhaust manifold runs very hot. Rate if this helps

Was driving my kia sephia it made a loud popping noise with white smoke under hood now it wont start

This could be various issues. Assuming you have not looked under the hood and found anything obvious, I would suggest a tow truck and a good repair shop. Here's a couple tips. If you smell an accrid oder it could be a short in the wiring. If it looks like white steam it could be simple as a blown radiator hose. Quite honestly there's not a good way to diagnose the issue without inspection or more information.

Went to start car, made LOUD POP NOISE, then smoke poured out from under hood?? Is my car even fixable??

Depends on what went pop. What color was the smoke? If it was white and the engine was hot you may be lucky and just have blown a radiator hose. If the smoke was black or blue that would be more in line with an oil leak which may still not be the end of your car. You need to have someone look under the hook and determine where the pop sound came from.

1990 Geo metro popped and poured white smoke out

its a GEO POPPER.
"no oil up on crank case"

no idea what that means.??????
yes PCV valve. do clog.

white smoke at end if tail pipe.
you didnt say where,?

white smoke has 2 reasons.(tail end)
Steam and oil.
steam goes away fast and looks just like moms tea pot. and smells sweet, like the antifreeze in engine. (rad cap off ,sniff sniff, cold engine)

oil burning, smoke is very very slow to go away.
and smells like , blush burned oil.
if not sure what burn oil looks like or smells like
take out the dip stick on a hot engine
let it drip to the hot exhaust manifold there.
now you know. and is a key diagnostic skill.

no oil seen on dip stick end?, you mean that?
well you need to keep that from happening,
doing weekly service, and for sure old cars.
26 years old.

low oil invites blowing up a good engine.
for sure.
if it did that smoke is oil
if it did 10x worse, both .

my wild guess is you meant to say
I didnt see oil leaking on top of engine.
right?

if the engine backwires to the air cleaner
you forgot to replace the cam belt every 60k miles
the pcv will also be clogged, on cars not getting proper service, super colon.
if the PCV clogs, engine may leak oil bad.

this engine btw is a G10 3 cylinder.
with TBI injection.
we can talk TBI all day, owned one.

white smoke can come from many places
exhaust manifold, leaks of oil can land there
engine can back fire to air cleaner making smoke.
tail end.
steam is much worse. ill not delve in to that yet/.

My 01 gmc jimmy made a loud pop and white smoke started blowing out from under the hood. Now it makes a knocking sound but not like its low on oil or inside the motor. I dont have water in my oil and now...

The smoke under hood means that u need replace gasket between exhaust pipe and engine but smoke and knocking is not very good, it looks like your engine pistons has cracks and u r loosing oil by smoke time to time, i'd buy used engine from crashed car with less miles on it

Smoke is coming out from under my hood...checked antifreeze and oil so it fine

white smoke usualy tells about a leakage in the cooling. check that. dont forgett to refill. get it repaired or DIY. attention: could be really hot.

if it smells like fuel, a fuel line is broken. then dont drive any more since it can catch fire.

if the smoke is not white, go to the repair shop instantly.
