Start by removing the cover that is held on by two 8mm bolts above the water pump that has the belt routing diagram on it. Before removing the belt, break the 10mm bolts loose holding on the water pump pulley. Remove belt. Remove the 8mm bolts holding the water pump on, there are 6 if I remember right. Note the position of the two metal tabs molded to the water pump because it only goes on one way. Remove water pump and scrape off any old gasket material that may have stayed on the engine. Install the new water pump and reverse the procedure for installation. After completing the job, fill up the coolant, Dex cool coolant or equivalent long life coolant. Before starting the car, crack open the two coolant bleed valves one at a time until no air is coming out and it is straight coolant, but be careful because these tend to break easy. Close the bleeder and repeat for the second one. The hardest part of the job is getting all of the air out of the cooling system. These can be stubborn. Start the car and let it reach operating temperature. If it overheats, you may have to crack the bleeders open again because you have air in the system.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Where is the water pump in a 1999 buick century

The water pump is on the top. While facing the engine (front-wheel drive), it is the closest part to you that is on the belt. It is in front of the power-steering pump (slightly lower).
