Question about 1996 GMC Sonoma
You have to remove the oil pan which may require lifting the motor a bit to get it out since the pick up tube for the oil pump goes into the deeper part of the oil pan. After you get the pan off, remove the two bolts holding the pump in. There is a rod that goes from the oil pump up through the engine and is connected to the bottom of the distributor that is notched to fit into the oil pump to drive it. Make sure you get that rod into the pump or you won't have oil pressure and will destroy the engine. Don't forget to get an oil pan gasket as well because you are going to need it! Hope this helps.
