Question about 1997 Dodge Dakota
Hello all, i read through alot of the posts already hoping to find an answer to my issues but so far i havent seen anything. I have a few problems really with my 97 Dakota. Its the V6 3.9.
First is the brake light inside, its on and i havent been able to get it off yet, and it wont pass inspection with it on. I tried bleeding the brakes just earlier today with someone pumping the pedal and holding it. The only issue i saw was the read drivers side, the fluid barely came out of the bleeder screw. less than a dribble really.
My second issue is the interior light/accs. It seems to work sometimes, sometimes not. If i open the door it takes some time for the light to come on, thats even if it comes on. Thats the same with the key chime if keys are in the ignition, or light chime if truck is off and i open the door, sometimes they chime, sometimes not. During last winter i was driving a good 2hour run up the highway and the interior light would come on and off every few seconds, and i could hear a clicking noise coming from i think the glovebox. this hasnt happened since the winter, but i wonder if its a factor.
Any help is appreciated greatly..
And as for the other guys posting about the paint jobs on there trucks, mine is the same, the front end was repainted like 2 years ago, and the clearcoat is almost completely gone from the hood, and is now bubbling and peeling off from most of the corners, doorjams, etc.
I had the same problem with the brake light. I replaced the brake control module ( mines a stick with 4 wheel drive so it is mounted in front of the shifters on the floor under the dash. You will need to take the lower part of the dash apart at get to it.No big deal just 6 to 8 screws.I got my replacement from parts yard used(worked fine and took care of the problem).

As far as your interir lights the most likely cause is a bad door ajar switch.
the brake light that is on i assume is the red one...this can also be on because of a bad parking brake switch..if it is the yellow oe you need to have your anti lock brake system checked
