1997 Dodge Dakota, brake and inside light issues.

Hello all, i read through alot of the posts already hoping to find an answer to my issues but so far i havent seen anything. I have a few problems really with my 97 Dakota. Its the V6 3.9.

First is the brake light inside, its on and i havent been able to get it off yet, and it wont pass inspection with it on. I tried bleeding the brakes just earlier today with someone pumping the pedal and holding it. The only issue i saw was the read drivers side, the fluid barely came out of the bleeder screw. less than a dribble really.

My second issue is the interior light/accs. It seems to work sometimes, sometimes not. If i open the door it takes some time for the light to come on, thats even if it comes on. Thats the same with the key chime if keys are in the ignition, or light chime if truck is off and i open the door, sometimes they chime, sometimes not. During last winter i was driving a good 2hour run up the highway and the interior light would come on and off every few seconds, and i could hear a clicking noise coming from i think the glovebox. this hasnt happened since the winter, but i wonder if its a factor.

Any help is appreciated greatly..

And as for the other guys posting about the paint jobs on there trucks, mine is the same, the front end was repainted like 2 years ago, and the clearcoat is almost completely gone from the hood, and is now bubbling and peeling off from most of the corners, doorjams, etc.

I had the same problem with the brake light. I replaced the brake control module ( mines a stick with 4 wheel drive so it is mounted in front of the shifters on the floor under the dash.You will need to take the lower part of the dash apart at get to it.No big deal just 6 to 8 screws.I got my replacement from parts yard used(worked fine and took care of the problem).

As far as your interir lights the most likely cause is a bad door ajar switch.
the brake light that is on i assume is the red one...this can also be on because of a bad parking brake switch..if it is the yellow oe you need to have your anti lock brake system checked

I switched the break light switch an all the fuses the brakes still will not work,but all the other lights work

Hi,
Better look down at ur brake pedal( along the steering column ), there is a switch that the pedal is suppose to hit when ur not stepping on the pedal. stepping the brake will release the switch's rod!
The brake switch might be disconnected or broken already!
Check it!

How do you remove the headlight light assymbly to replace the headights, on a 1997 dodge dakota?

Just checking but are you sure that the bulb inside theheadlight doesn't twist and pull out for easy replacement. New models have changed to this method and you may want to double check that before replacing the whole assembly. It comes out of the headlight like a brake light bulb. let me now if i saved you a buck, Raz

1997 Dodge dakota air bag warning light is on what do I need to do?

You likely have a sensor fault. You can have this checked free of charge at most national parts chains such as Auto Zone or Advance. They will do a diagnostic code read for you and interpret the codes in hopes of selling you a part. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota who ABS light and Brake

when brake light is constantly on it normally means the rear brake light dont work (bulb blown) ABS normally means sensors pushed too far or teeth on abs cv axle could be damaged or bent. check that first.

I posted a question yesterday about my 2001 Dodge Dakota (brake lights and flashers not working, bulbs and fuse okay). Not sure how this system works, but I paid 9.95 for the premium service and expected...

Hello;
Your brake light switch is probably the culprit here. It is located on the brake pedal where the rod attaches from the master cylinder. Check for continuity on and off as well as voltage at the plug in. Hope this helps;
