Question about Chrysler Sebring

My car lost power when driving, choked out and died. It would not immediatedly turn over again. It did once about 20 minutes later, but now it will not at all. I was able to get it re-started that one last time and got it parked at nearby auto parts lot. It barely had any power and was jumping and jerking the whole time. It felt like I was driving with the emergency brake on on top of all that. When the diagnostic was ran, the p071 code was the only code that appeared.

    Would this be related to the mass air sensor, or have anything to do with too much oxygen in the exhaust?

Here is what the code says -
INTERMITTENT DTC G31 - AAT Signal circuit shorted to voltage G31 - AAT Signal to ground G31- AAT Signal circuit shorted - G931- AAT sensor ground circuit G31 - AAT Signal circuit open or high resistance SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE G931 - AAT sensor ground circuit open or high resistance Ambient Air Temperature Sensor
So you will want to replace the ambient Temperature Sensor. It's located behind the front bumper on the center of the vehicle towards the bottom. You simply remove the connector and the bolt holding it in place and install the new one. You may have to get the sensor from the dealer though. $10 tops I would think for the sensor. After you replace it, go to Auto Zone and have them clear the code for free.

    Most Chrysler do not have MAF sensors unless they have the Mitsubishi engine. They have speed density systems. They are different. MAF uses air to adjust the fuel curve. Speed Density Systems uses a programmed set of variables to adjust the fuel curve. Different systems but both accomplish the same thing.

2004 Nissan Altima 3.5L BATTERY LIGHT went on during 15 minute drive. Next day car "died" while idling after a 20 minute drive. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT & BATTERY LIGHT on prior to full electrical failure.


Start with checking the alternator voltage with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage in the battery which should be holding 12v charged less if flat of course then start the car and test the battery again. If the alternator is good you should be getting a reading of 14 to 14.5 v if it's the alternator it'll A) not put any charge into the battery or B) be a very low voltage being anything under 13.5 v

My car is sputtering and dying. If I try to restart it, it will immediately go into sputtering/dying mode. If I wait a while an hour or so it will start up and drive fine.


When was the last time that the carburetor was stripped and cleaned? Also have you checked the fuel filter? Finally, the problem seems to come and go as the engine is run (and it gets hot) check that the fuel line and any electrical cables are well away from the hot engine as far as is possible.

Yes it sounds like the alternator voltage regulator is wearing down and needs to be changed or replaced.

If you can get your hands on a 12 volt multimeter, turn the setting to 20 dc and place the negative wire on the negative battery post and the positive wire on the positive battery post.


The battery with motor off should be 12.6 volts and higher, start the the car the read out should be 14.,2 or higher.


You can turn the lights and heater on to see if the alternator can cope with the load.


if read out is less then you need to change or replace it.

Car will not stay turned ON when cold


Try this. When you first try to turn your engine on, keep your foot on the gas pedal. The car should turn over but not start. (don't worry, its not supposed to). Take your foot off the gas and turn the ignition on again, but Don't touch the throttle this time. That should set your choke correctly. To summarise: Turn key with foot on Gas. Take foot off Gas, and turn key again.

Engine quit when stopped at stop light. Acted as if it was choking then died. Tried restarting. Turns over strong, no start. Thought maybe no gas. Added gas after about 30 minutes. Started first try....


Sounds like the fuel pump is going out. Replace the filter first, as it's only $10. If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably the pump, which is $250.

Take it back to where you got it and make them refund your purchase price. If they refuse and you finianced it go to them, There a law called "The Lemon Law" that makes it unlawful to sell something like that. Sounds like you sure bought one. the alternator is not charging and once you run out of battery power car dies when you let it sit battery builds a small charge enough to run short period of time.get charging system checked.

i would check your ignition system. you would need a meter for this but look for broke or loose connections. if it was a fuel problem i dont think it would just start up after 20 minutes. or you might try your ignition switch. if its shorting or something then ya well it would cut your engine off real quick
