You never want to attempt to fix an airbag system unless you are trained to do so. The problem could be just a bad sensor but the riisk of injury is not worth the time. I suggest taking it in to be looked at. Have a good day.

How fix an odometer gauge 1997 Chevy astro van

you do not fix it, you buy another instrument cluster from a junkyard or eBay, then you swap them.
the car will not be worth another dollar with a working odometer, i would just put up with it as a sign of an aging, but otherwise still useful, vehicle.

Looking for location of bcm on 97 astro van dash

The BCM is located immediately above the heater controls inside the dash on my 2004 Astro. I know it controls the headlights and locks but not gauges. Haynes says the gauge fuse supplies it power....but I'm not going to bank on that one.

Has the 'Check Engine' light come on? I had this problem at 30,000 miles and the trouble codes set were transmission component slipping. Ultimately required replacement of the transmission.
