Question about 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier
First make sure you have spark to the plugs, if you do move on to the fuel system. Check the fuel filter and even the pump. Turn the key on but don't crank. Do You hear the pump in the tank? if not you know the problem. If thats okay than check the filter. You may need a fuel line tool ( buy @ any auto parts store cheap). If all these check out, than you might have to put a scanner on it to determine if any electrical issue are causing your problem.

The starting problems may be a result of the passlock anti-theft system not operating properly.
The passlock system is meant to stop anyone from starting the car with anything other than the key,(hammer and screwdriver, ect.). When the key is used to start the car the ignition sends an electronic signal to the fuel system, if this signal is not received the car will not run for more than a few seconds or may not start at all. In many cases the solution may be as simple as changing the ignition (key switch) cylinder.

I too had this problem a few months ago and here was the solution.
I bought my car used and it turned out that the seal to the cables leading to the computer had been broken. It looks like the previous owner tried to have the odometer tampered with by breaking open the computer and doing some ghetto reprogramming.
Unfortunately, this completely screwed up the air compression and temperature reading in my engine. When these settings are wrong, your computer will decide it will not start your car.
So the solution in my case was replace the computer. My car now runs beautifully and has horsepower I never knew it was supposed to have in the first place.
