Question about 1997 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6. It tries to start, and I can hear the fuel pump working. When we turn the ignition the 20 amp fuse for the fuel pump blows. Someone suggested that it may be the relay. I'm trying to replace the fuel pump relay switch but can't figure out where it goes

Normally, the fuel pump relay and fuses are in a box , that is located under the hood on the drivers side of your car, it has a plastic cover, and most of the covers have diagrams on the inside informing the person , just where the relay or fuse is located.

Ok lets start at the beginning.
You may need a repair book and test equipment to fix this.
First, are you getting power thru the PCM relay ? The relay provides power to the fuel pump relay and the computer among other things.
That relay and the fuses that protect it can affect both spark and fuel.

if it doesnt start with quick start then the problem is not fuel related. You have an ignition issue like a bad crans sensor or ignition module or even possible a blown fuse if you have a ECM or ING fuse
