Question about 1993 Ford F350

1 Answer

I drive a 1993 F-350 4door dually, 2wd 5spd manual trans powered by a 7.3l Navistar Diesel non turbo. I bought used in 2003 with 160,000 miles on it and was a problem then. I have 223,000 on it now. Having trouble with the truck restarting after shutdown and outside temps above 70 deg F. Only after 15 minutes or longer does this seem to happen and acts like its "vapor locked". My solution to this problem so far has been to carry a bottle of water with me and pour some on the injection pump while leaving the key in the RUN/ON position and then starts right up. It has been my suspicion that the fuel shutoff solenoid is sticking when the extra heat from the engine (after shutoff) causes the parts to swell and then bind. How do I clean this part to get it to work properly again or is simply just to replace it? Where is the fuel shutoff solenoid located? Also, I run about 114hp on the dyno when taken in for emissions! How do I get more hp without extreme cost or adding a turbo? Don't pull much and mostly a daily driver but slow on passing and hills!

SOURCE: 92 Ford 7.3 non-turbo won't start - worked fine minutes earlier

this may sound stupid but the next time this happens take some ice cold water and pour it over the injection pump.if it starts what you nhave is a bad pump.this is usually caused by someone washing off a hot motor and what happens is it changes the clearances just enough that hot, the pump cannot reach min injection pressure. the injection pump is located in the center front of the motor

SOURCE: Ford 460 loses power then dies. Starts back up. Idles fine.

It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.

How do I build/repair a damaged wiring harness for a 1984 VW Jetta GL 1.6L non-turbo diesel 5 speed, manual steering?

You could try to just cut out the bad part and solder in the new wire to the good part of the old. Also clean up the affected area.

We have an 87 4Runner. We replaced the turbo 4cyl

It should only start in P and N. Is this a 4 wheel drive? Check the transfer case if it is. If not check to make sure torque converter bolts were put in. If they weren't it won't do anything.
