I doubt the radiator is plugged up. The hose should be cooler coming out of the radiator than going in (top).
If the overflow tank is bubbling it could be from the hot coolant, or you could have a head gasket leak and allowing compression - exhaust into the cooling system.

Always replace the thermostat when changing water pump. The age of the vehicle warrants replacing upper and lower radiator hoses too.

My 3.7 liter 6 V Jeep Liberty (2003) runs hot very quickly. If I speed it cools down but if I am idle or in slow traffic it overheats! The radiator and hoses seem to be fine. There are no apparent leaks...

Chek in this order:

1- The water level in the auxiliary deposit.
2- the ventilator, some one have in the center a viscosity licuit that become hard when the temperature increase, if not, the air flow slowly and the water increase the temperature.
3- the valve, this is locate in the return tube from the radiator to the motor, this one regulate the pass of water to maintain the temperature stable.

I hope this help you.

Suspect you have a loose clamp on a radiator hose or the oil change guy made something leak. There is a tool which is similar to a a bicycle pump in that it pressurizes the water system and your engine does not have to run or be hot to test. Some major auto parts stores may have a loaner.

Its going to stay hot and lose pressure until you fix the leak.

Hi

Firstly do not use the car, it is either the water pump or the thermostat, sounds like the thermostat as you said it showed no signs of overheating. check that first as that is the cheapest part. if it is the water pump then again this might cause it to suddenly bubble up as the water is not been sent through the rad to cool. that rumbbling noise is the hot water and air, this will blow the head gasket and would be very expensive to get fixed.

Finally and quite unlikely the radiator could be blocked, doubtful but again worth a check, I would go for the water pump though as you said the water is coming from the middle of the engine. do be aware though that water could have came from the water bottle where you put it in. So would suggest the thermostat again.

Hope this helps

Dan

My 2004 Jeep Cheokee loredo is running hot. Could

Could be several things,

1. thermostat
2. water pump
3. fan motor is bad (is the fan running when at temp?)
4. fan motor relay

Is it running hot all the time or just when setting idle?

Car overheated and antifreze was boiling and spewing over until engine cooled. 2004 jeep liberty 2wd. Thanks!

Need to know what caused the overheating, possible broken serpentine belt, thermostat, water pump, radiator, fan clutch, cooling fan motor. After motor has cooled down fill radiator with water till full, look make sure serpentine belt not broke, start engine run about 5 minutes, turn off, let sit 3 minutes, start engine look at temperture gauge is it over half way of gauge, Do you have a fan blade driven by water pump or electric fans?

My 2002 jeep liberty is running hot i have changed the thermostat and the water pump is working and the jeep is still running hot while driving. vehicle does not run hot while in park and running.

your clutch on cooling fan could be faulty or your radiators cores is blocked and restricted.also grilled could be blocked restricting air flow.
