Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

I was turning on to a busy road. I spun the tires and then the car did not feel right. I turned off the road then when I started accelerating the car shook real bad. Feels like something in the transmission. Engine light came on. It is a standard.

I would check to see if you busted a motor mount first. You can check this by having a friend to rev engine and watch if it moves more then normal. This could be a number of thing's But you have to start somewhere, This is not that big of deal so hope it helps you out, Good luck.

If you hear a clacking sound esp. while turning. Sound like your CV joints (constant velocity) or Front Wheel Drive axle.

Humming noise coming from left front tire, just started two days!

If the tires are wearing normal then its not the ball joint. If it worse while turning one way and quieter turning the other way it a wheel bearing. A ball joint does'nt make a constant noise.

Vibration and noise coming from front end.

Try this . Find an empty stretch of road . Accelerate teh vehicle to 30 mph ,while you switch the transmission INTO NEUTRAL, making sure there are no other vehicles in or behind your path. Listen and feel for your problem. Still feel it ? I would raise the vehicle in the air, and inspect ALL 4 TIRES for OUT OF ROUNDNESS. Cupping will not only cause a vibration, but also a noise. Hope this helps.

1500 HD 6.0 V8 4 wheel drive pulls when on wet or slick roads

Test the tread depth, see how close it is on all 4, Toe-in setting is supposed to point the front tires toward each other very slightly. On a dry surface in 4x4 if you turn a tight circle you should feel skipping when the tires pull against each other. Caster, camber and toe in should have all been checked on all 4 wheels. With newer cars that have traction control and antiskid, the old methods of alignment are not any good. It is quickly becoming quite specialized.

06 dodge ram full turn in 4X4 feels like its fighting

Yes, it's normal. Make sure you only engage it in 4x4 for tight turns if u are driving in snow, off road, ice, etc. The wheels are trying to turn the same revolutions, and of course the wheels on the inside of the turn have a much shorter distance to rotate than the wheels on the outside, that's why u feel the 'fighting something' u describe. On snow ice sand, there is slippage of the tires possible, on dry pavement there isn't, so u can damage the system (blow it) if u use 4x4 on dry pavement, because something has to 'give', and if it's not the tires slipping on the ice, sand, snow, it might be your system that gives, and that ain't cheap! So only use 4 Lock when necessary.

Road wheel speed related scraping noise when turning right and accelerating

Is anything hanging down against the tire? If not i would say you have need of a wheel bearing. If it was a axle joint it would click and click lots on right turns on acceleration
