  • Drain plug may not have been installed and tightened
  • Oil filter may not have been installed correctly, allowing leakage
  • Old oil may not have been drained completely

00 lincon navigator 5.4 oil pressure drop's low and light comes on , engine idles rough when pressure drops ,then pressure return s to normal range ,light goes out ,engine runs perfect. Is it my oil

Sounds more like an engine idle issue than a oil pressure issue. If the engine idle drops too low, the oil pump cannot provide sufficient oil pressure. If there is no oil light when the engine is idling normally, then there is no problem there.

2004 Navigator 5.4l dohc passenger side lifter tap.

Are you absolutely certain the noise is lifter tap and not an exhaust leak? These are pretty well known for breaking exhaust manifold studs, or even cracking exhaust manifolds. The noise will be present on a cold engine but might go away as the engine heats up and the manifold expands. Maybe that's why it seems to go away after adding additives or changing the oil. It gets just enough heat in the engine to fool you in to thinking the issue was resolved by adding the oil/additive. Are you always adding to a cold engine?

02 navigator, oil light and no pressure, i changed the oil pressure switch. ran good for 5 min and now same problem, bad oil pump?

Does the engine make any noise (knocking, rattling, etc.?) Before you condemn the oil pump, connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see what your oil pressure really is. If the mechanical gauge indicates good pressure, then you have an electrical issue somewhere.

2003 Toyota Corolla oil pressure light flickers then goes to solid after a short period of time. Last time this happened, changed oil and filters and light went away. Now after maybe 1000 miles of driving,...

see if you have any oil level or pressure sensors. sometimes these can get gunked up. You may need a new oil pump. I suggest you start using a senthetic oil (valvoline, mobil 1 is reccomended) after u get the problem fixed.

Blowing blue smoke on light quick acceleration from idle whilst stationary

Did this problem start suddenly or after an oil change or top up. Your oil level might be too high, if so the surplus will burn off. If it happens on start up or long idle periods but goes away during normal running could be valve guides or seals.

How do I reset the oil change light in a 2008 Chevy Suburban

Try this: turn the key to the RUN position (don't start it), press the accelerator to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds. The oil life light should flash twice, indicating that it's been reset.

If you have steering wheel controls, you can navigate to where it says Oil Life and then hold the arrow down, that should also reset the oil life.

Oil light coming on at certain times

Have it done Oil & filter) a.s.a.p. to make sure light goes out.If it doesn't , change the sender or at least have a mechanic hook-up an external oil pressure gauge to confirm oil pressure is in safe range. Turn stereo off once in a while & listen for any new, louder tapping or different noises from engine. if that happens, shut it off right away. My guess is your o.k. but let's err on the side of caution. Check oil level & top up as needed.

The check engine light is on and the check oil light stayed on even though the oil was just changed

If your engine isn't rattling, the oil pressure is probably OK; I wouldn't drive it far until you have someone with a pressure gauge check it however. This normally takes only a couple of minutes of service time.

The oil pressure sensor/sender is one of the most unreliable devices in our cars for some reason - maybe just cheap. Your car probably also has the pressure sensor telling the computer to turn on the 'check engine' light too so if the sensor fails, you get both.
There is a remote possibility that the oil pump has failed but they are more reliable than the sensor and if you haven't noticed any change in engine noise, you are only a few bucks away from a 'no idiot lights' condition.
