Here is the procedure for disarming the airbag, which is a good idea:

    2000-02 Models

    1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK , remove the key, then disconnect the negative battery cable.

    3. Remove the AIR BAG or SIR fuse from the fuse block.

    4. Remove the steering column filler panel or knee bolster.

    5. Unplug the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow two way connector at the base of the steering column.

    6. Open the glove compartment door, lift the stop and let the door fully open.

    7. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the passenger yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.

    8. Unplug the yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.

    9. Connect the negative battery cable.

      NOTE

With the AIR BAG fuse removed, the battery cable connected and the ignition in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning lamp will be ON. This is normal and does not indicate a system malfunction.

Hi, please note that you have opened a second chat window. You will need to click the "My Activities" tab to see that you have 2 chats. Click on the second one, and cancel it.

I found the below pic that may hael a little. I will look for some better ones though. Hopefully you can see what is wrong when you get the covers off the column. If you aren't sure what is wrong, please do get back to me and maybe send a picture of what you are looking at, if possible.

If your column looks like the one below, the switch is right behind the key barrel and is likely the source of the problem. If you take the switch out, try to turn it thru the various positions. If it turns freely, you can test it. The problem may also be with the steering wheel locking linkage. I forgot to ask you if the steering wheel locks. If not, the linkage may be the problem. With the switch removed, see if you can manipulate the linkage to lock the steering wheel--this will show you if there is an issue with the locking linkage.

How can I get key out which is stuck in ignition of 2008 cobalt. It also won't start

This can happen if the battery is low / dead. To solve, connect a set of jumper cables between the battery in the Cobalt and a running car's battery. Shut off the running car. In the Cobalt, make sure all accessories (lights, radio, fan, etc.) are off. Step on the brake, then move the gear shifter fully into the PARK position. Next, either attempt to start the engine, or turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.

I hope this helps & good luck!

My hhr will not turn off, where is the battery so i can disconnect it

Unplugging the battery won't shut it down I don't think.

Get into your fuse box under the dash or in the engine compartment and pull the fuse for the fuel pump.

1997 GMC Jimmy 4.3. It runs great. I will drive it for 30-45 min and then it will die on me. All dash lights will come on just like if you turn the key on and not start the engine. It will restart and then...

When the engine dies do the accessories such as radio, lights, heater all die along with the engine; or do they keep running as they were prior to the stall?
If they all quit together (as if the key was shut off) I would check the electrical part of the ignition switch or the battery cables and connections (check both ends of cables and little ground wire near battery that connects to car body). The ignition switches are a well known culprit in the s10's.

If the radio and lights keep running after the stall, I would look at the crank position sensor, ignition coils etc.

Good Luck!

Engine won't start. Dash lights flash rapidly when key turned.

the battery says 12 volts but may be dropping to 4 or 5 under a load...i would suggest jumpstarting the car and see what happens.the battery should read in the high 12 volts and not less than 9.5 under cranking. the dash lights go out on your car when starting, and the alarm will go off ,and disable the ignition if the voltage is too low in cranking the car because the computer will shut it down and activate the anti theft.....check your battery posts are tight. best of luck
