You replace the bulbs from the back of the headlight housing not separating the lens assembly.you may have to move things out of the way as there is very little room to get your hand in there to do the job.sometimes the manufacture has made it easy to remove the assembly to change the bulbs.it is usually 2 bolts(screws) that need to be removed(loosened) and the assembly tilted and pulled up or out away from the locking tab.you will have to look to see which way to do this.

On the Envoy, there are two tabs at the top of each headlight housing. Lift these tabs and housing will come out. At the rear of housing are two large rubber covers, one for the low beam and the other for the high beam. Remove the appropriate one to access the bulb.

No need to, there are 2 methods....1 envolves removing the grill, but it's too brittle

Drivers side, stick your hand down by the alternator and over behind the headlight. You'll feel a 3" round rubber boot, just pull this off. You now can twist out your bulb and replace.

Passengers- remove the air cleaner top, at this point you'll have complete and easy access, same procedure as above.

To change headlithgth bulb of a 1999 vw beetle

There are two spring clips located under the hood around each headlamp housing. Open both clips and extract the headlamp housing from the front of the car by pulling the plastic assembly by grabing the edges by the black rubber seal. The entire headlamp housing will pull out from the front bumper enough to allow you to change the bulbs. Repeat procedure and clip the spring clamps back in place.

Headlamp loose on drivers side. seems to go in and out when driving. the light still works but is very dim. Have plugged the wires in, but they loosen right away. Is it the headlamp bulb or assembly. This...

If it is the light bulb, meaning the replaceable glass bulb that gets plugged by the wire connector, the clip may not be properly seated on the housing of the bulb. Take the time to match up the tangs of the bulb housing to the hole it plugs in to.
