Question about 1990 Chevrolet K2500

1 Answer

I have an 89 chevy c1500, 5.7, 2wd. Had it running and trying to get it timed. During this process i noticed the injectors quit giving gas. I put gas in it and nothing changed so i have been chasing the problem since. changed pump, relay, fuse, have 12v at injectors new grounds, ecm, throttle body, map, tps, cap, rotor, coil, icm, and temp sensor. The fuel pump wont come on and the injectors won't fire. I assume this is an electrical problem any idea will help. thanks.

what do you mean by new grounds? I have seen the relay ground wire go bad on this model. When I was testing the relay, I could not get continuity between ground and the black relay wire. So I cut the wire, stripped the end, and wrapped it under the firewall ground point just to the left of the relay on the firewall. Pump came on and all was well again.

The reason the injectors stopped is because the motor is not running.this is a safety precaution built into the computer so the engine won`t flood.if the fuel pump is not working then you will have to check powers and grounds at the fuel pump connector by the gas tank to see if the unit is getting fed power and ground.someone will have to try to start the car while you check this out as there is a 2 second prime circuit if the car is not turning over.also this system uses the distributor to know that the engine is turning over to may have a bad pickup coil in the distributor.this system also grounds the injectors through the ecm so you should have power to the injectors when the ignition is turned on,for your information.

I have a 1992 Chevy S10 Blazer Vin code W. I have fuel to the purge valve, is there anyway to flush the spider? It runs if u put gas in the snorkle till the gas runs out.

Purge valve? That is part of the emission system! Nothing to do with injectors. If the injectors are not supplying fuel and the fuel pump/pressure is good, look for a bad fuse. Does the check engine light illuminate during a bulb check? Check power and ground supply to injector harness plug. If no check engine light during bulb check, suspect a fuse/power supply issue

89 B2600I: engine starts and runs if you spray starting fluid in air intake- you quit then it quits. Injectors have 12 volts. computer has constant & ignition 12 volts plus several good ground...

So we would have to assume from what you're saying that the injectors are not being pulled to ground by the computer. Have you tried listening to them with a mechanics stethoscope? The computers are a common problem but if another one gives the same result then I'd have to say that the wiring harness between the computer and the injector is suspect. You will have to check the continuity between the injector plug and the connector that goes into the computer. You will need a wiring diagram but I think the wire colors at the injector should be the same as they enter the computer. I would strongly suggest that you confirm fuel pressure though. I know what you mean by fuel at the injectors, but pressure is important.

Fuel injector is leaking. Change the injector located inside the throttle body. It is loading up with too much gas during the night, abut is running fine when the excess fuel burns out of the system.

89 ram charger starts and stops, running irratically - HELP !!!

what you can do to test the idle control motor, is spray some brake cleaner or other thin, clean finishing solvent on it to let it release when the gas pedal is released. it may just be getting hung up after the vehicle warms. hope this helps

Doesn't stay running when i give it gas. runs idle and in gear.

Are both injectors spraying gas? Make sure fuel filter wasn't installed backwards and remember if the fuel pressure drops below 9psi those trucks wont run. If injectors are sticking tap them lighty with a wrench and see if that helps

1999 Silverado 5.3L hesitation ?

Filling it up with 92 octane will not help you so save your money to get other cool **** . If you want to put higher grade gas to the 89 ,but 87 will do the trick. Have you checked your pcv valve and hoses you might have a vaccum leak.
