Question about 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

Lotektek@bellsouth.netThe windshield washer in my 2005 Malibu Maxx will not pump water. The wipers go through their cycle when the washer button is pressed and the wipers otherwise operate normally. Is there a separate fuse or switch that activates the pump? I live in South Florida so freezing is not an issue

Hi, why are you looking for the fuse? Are your washers not working? Did you check to see if you had power at the washer pump motor? If there is power present, there is no need to find the fuse. Washer pump motor failures are common. Replacing a blown fuse will not fix your car until you find out why the fuse blew in the first place. Simply replacing the fuse will only serve to make you spend money on another fuse.

First look under the hood and see if you have washer fluid. I know this sounds stupid but it is the first thing you should check. If you do, then turn on the spray function and see if you hear a noise. If you do then you either have a busted hose or a clogged line. If you dont then you will need to locate your fuse box ( usually under the dash or under the hood) and find the windshield washer motor fuse and see if it is blown. Your owners manual should tell you where the fuse box is located and the names and locations of each fuse. If it is blown then first try replacing it to see if it blows again. If it does then you have a loose ground wire or power wire or too much amperage is going through the wires and blowing the fuse. Do not put a larger amperage fuse in the fuse box because then it will not blow the fuse and it will burn the wiring which could cause a fire. If this is the problem i recommend taking it to a professional. If it doesnt blow again then you had an intermittent problem but fuses dont blow for nothing unless something causes it to blow.

Water wont come out windshield wiper for dodge magnum 2005

Pull the washer fluid hose off the wiper arm and see if it has flow, then repair based on that information. If both wipers are not getting fluid then the washer pump or the washer switch on the column may be at fault.

My 2005 Malibu Max wipers work but the Windshield washer fluid motors do not for both the front and the rear.

Sorry to hear about your W/Washer NW. Please check the fuse first. Following that you will need a volt meter or a test light. Locate the W/Washer pump located on the W/Washer tank. Either unplug the harness at the W/W motor or back probe the grommet with a pin. (never probe wire insulation as it results in wire corrosion) Have someone engage the wash circuit and test for voltage.
If none is available you will need a wiring schematic to further diagnose this issue. (Many public libraries now have online research tools where Automotive Service Manuals are available)

Windshield washers not pumping water to windshield

The most common problem I find in this season, is having summer 32 deg. F freezing windshield wiper fluid in the tank rather than -20 deg. F freezing windshield wiper fluid.

Try to warm up the car by parking it in a heated garage until the windshield wiper fluid thaws. Then, try to use it all up, and add the 'winter' vs. the 'summer' formula of windshield wiper fluid.

If this does not solve the problem, the pump might be burnt out, in my experience.

You should hear a humming sound as you depress the button for windshield wiper fluid inside of the car.

Good luck on this repair.
