The temp sensor is located on the side of the block on the drivers side i believe and is a single wire sensor that is i think green in colour that slides onto the sensor sideways instead of sliding directly on like a push on connector.located in the upper part of the block below the cylinder head.if its not on this side then it will be on the other side.its be a while.

I need the easiest possible directions to replace the coolant temperature sensor in my 1999 Chevy Lumina ltz 3.8 v6 car please.

The coolant sensor temperature is usually found just beneath the cylinder head, on the engine block.

You just disconnect the 1-2 wires and then undo it with a wrench.
The sensor will look like one of these:
1999 Chevy Lumina ltz 3 8 v6 coolant temperature sensor Google Search

Just be aware .. you may have TWO such sensors on your vehicle.

One sensor (usually with 3-4 electrical pins) is near the thermostat and works in conjunction with other sensors to regulate fuel/air according to engine temperature.

The other type of sensor is in the block near the cylinder head. It sends a signal to the temperature gauge on your dashboard ONLY. If your temp gauge constantly reads too hot or too cold .. this one is the culprit.25939754-r0ibht2u2t2rhetbyfvb2pry-5-0.jpg
If it's a running fault .. speed .. rough running .. fuel. It may look like this:

Replacement of coolant temperature sensor location of coolant temperature sensor on 2.5 gt

located under intake in water crossover pipe, you can access the sensor by removing intake chamber box, then pcv hose connected to the block, the connector is orangeish 2pin,use a 19mmdeep socket on a 3/8 ratchet to get it loose, make sure engine is cool, also make sure there is a new brass washer with your new sensor, sometimes the old washer comes off when removing the sensor, sometimes it sticks to the pipe, some coolant will escape so make sure to top it off

Location of the coolant temperature sensor

You will find this sensor where the fat hos comes from the radiator and conects to the engine block. It would be on the housing where the thermostat is located. If it is not there you should look for a sensor that has a wire connected to it anywhere on the engine block where a water inlet is located. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate my answer, thanks.
