Question about 1995 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

The part on the steering column where i put my key has come out, but i have managed to put it back in and start the truck every time with ease. But today when i tried to start it I turned it and nothing happened, no noise , no lights nothing. I could turn on the lights manually and they work fine so i don't think its a battery problem. If anyone can give me a clue that would be great!

Three thing there...
1. No clickng sound when turn the ignition key could be a bad ignition switch
2. No clickng sound when turn the ignition key could be a good ignition switch, but bad starter; when open contact (just ON, dont START engine) dashborad and instrumen panel turn on?
3. No clicking sound in the starter also could be dead battery (exhauts charge), keep in mind that you need over 12 volts to crank and start engine.

Check, test it and send us details.

What can I do to unlock the steering column on my 1996 Toyota Camry?

When the car started rolling it locked it up tight. Try putting the car in neutral, put the key in and push against the car in the opposite direction that it rolled while you turn the key and jerk on the steering wheel. You will need to slightly roll the car back to get it unlocked. Get a buddy to help you push the car if you can.

Steering column won't unlock

The front wheels are at a angle putting pressure on the steering lock , rock the steering wheel from side to side while turning the key.

Security system passlock

1st, did you use your original keys from your old column? If not the keys may be chipped in which case your truck wont start because of security system, MAKE SURE YOU USE YOUR KEYS IN THE NEW COLUMN..

2nd, if you did use your keys (Ignition switch) in your new column, then you may need to do a relearn on your system;

Attempt to start, when it fails, leave the key in the run position for 11-12 minutes (til the security light goes off).

Turn off for 30-45 seconds.

Repeat first step.

On the 4th attempt of this process, it should fire up.

Can't put key in the ignition

try moving your steering wheel back and forth while trying key. I don't see how you could move the steering column, its usually bolted in very tight. If you can move your steering column, it needs tightened up immediatly!

2008 Mazda tribute won't start easily and normally anymore. Sometimes only starts when I turn the key all the way very hard while putting pressure on it . It's like pressing the key inward whi

It sounds like it is a linkage issue between the lock cylinder and the ignition switch. The ignition switch is located on the steering column and there is usually a rod that connects the lock to the switch. These switches have some adjustment, so you should be able to loosen the bolts and move the switch up the column. Just remove the panels below the steering column and look for a bunch of wires plugged in towards the bottom of the steering column.

My key wont turn, so i cant move my car how can i fix this? we have moved the steering wheel shitloads to unlock it. i think my friend may have put a different key in and its now jammed?

without taking the steering column apart, I would first try to get the key out of the steering wheel by turning steering wheel back and forth, don't worry about putting some effort into it. keep the steering wheel moving and turn the key back and forth at the same time. It might take some time but its the only way to get the key out of lock position.

Car wont start when i turn the key

The first thing you need to check is whether the key has a pellet in it or "chip". If it does...the problem is most likely your key lock cylinder. Go buy a new key lock cylinder....KEEP YOUR OLD KEY. Take your new lock cylinder down to any Chevrolet dealer to find out what the VATS number is for your key....then have the dealer cut you a new key with that same VATS number...then go to your vehicle and remove the negative battery cable...this does two things...1. It resets the computer after a five minute period of no power...2.. allows you to work on the steering column without power on it.

Remove the steering wheel with the aid of repair manual.

Put the new key lock cylinder with the wire running down the steering column. Then put the steering column back together....Hook up the negative battery cable, then use your new key that was CUT and your car should start

Ignition

ther is a linkage between the key switch and the ignition switch that is under the dash on the steering column. it is called an accuator. i have been driving fords a long time and i have changed five of them since 1980 when ford put the switch on the column. you will have to start off by removing the steering wheel then yhe ignition switch and so on. it is tricky... but not bad..
