Question about 2000 Nissan Altima

Hi, car won't start - the battery died and was replace, but still not starting. Engine is cranking over without starting. Thinking it's the alternator or starter, but not certain which. Thx for the help.

If the car cranks over it is most likely not the starter as it will be turning by the fact the the engine tries to start. As for the alternator I cannot say. It may have been the reason the battery needed replacing. However it should have no effect on weather or not the car starts. I would be looking at fuel pressures to make sure that the fuel system is supplying fuel to the engine and you would also need to be sure that the engine is getting spark from the spark plugs. Both of these procedures are best left to professionals. I really suggest you take it to a shop and have them look at it, otherwise if you just buy parts you could just be throwing money away.

Battery died, changed battery and now engine wont crank.

Look for a blown starter fuse or fusible link in your underhood block. Also look for what made it blow.

  • Engine will turn over (crank) but will not start
  • Engine starts and dies (stalls)

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora will start sometimes and other times it won't, I replaced the starter and still the same.

If the engine cranks but won't start, the battery and starter are out of the picture.
When it won't start, someone will need to check fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs to proceed.

Engine won't crank. What could be the problem

Hi Scott, What do you mean by 'won't crank?' Is the engine turning on the starter but refusing to start or is the engine failing to crank (turn over). If its the latter, try replacing the battery. If its the first option then send more details and we'll try to help out. Regards John

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

You may have a faulty fuel pump. It may run fine but in any given time it will fail to give enough pressure to supply the engine with fuel that's why it dies.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

well christian you need to check fuel pump pressure and volume.if the fuel filter hasn;t been replaced in 30,000 mies i would replace it. but first the engine needs to be tested to see if all four sparkplugs have good spark and injector pulse.perform a injector pressure drop test .will tell if the injectors are allowing gas to pass.also if the engine cranks over slow may need the starter tested.engine will not start unless it reaches a rpm over 550.

Need a new battery first, or charge the battery...if the battery is over 3 years old, I would just replace it, also may need a higher output alternator with more amps, to run the electronic fuel injection, fuel pump, and ignition etc...
