Question about Nissan Xterra

1 Answer

I recently installed an aftermarket pioneer head unit w/nav in my 2002 Nissan Xterra SE.Ever since the install, I keep blowing a fuse for my dash, tail, license plate lights. It only happens when I start to drive the vehicle. If the vehicle is stationary and running with the lights on the fuse does not blow.I am not a proffessional car stereo installer however,I am no rookie and have done many installs. This issue is driving me nuts!!!

It sounds like you are grounding out somewhere. I would make sure that all of the wires are insulated, and that the ground wire to the unit, is connected correctly.

Hey Thanks.Do you think that I should run the ground wire from the head unit directly to the negative terminal to the vehicles battery?

No. You need to ground it to the body of the vehicle. There should be some type of metal bracket that you can use under the dash, and if not, then you can use a self tapping screw and mount it to the body.

I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra SE with a 3.3 V6 ENGINE. My Xterra has 2 catalytic converters, 1 on each side. However, it has a second piece that also looks like a catalytic converter on each side, if the the...

When replacing your converters you can eleminate the second converter, shops in different states have different rules that may prevent them from losing the 2nd converter but you as an end user can but an aftermarket converter that will fit your car and install it yourself. This will require a sawzall or a good hacksaw to remove the old units so as to leave enough pipe coming down from the exhaust manifolds for the new converter to clamp on. Once the new converters are installed any muffler shop can hook up the rest of your system.

Knock sensor in 2002 xterra se/sc

ok if it is getting spark at spark plugs that rules out ignition, let go to fuel, needs to check fuel pressure and also injector pulsation, if no pulsation fuel will not get into cylinder's, also a knock sensor will not keep an engine from starting, it controls ignition timing once engine is running.

Removal of Headlamp bulb?

The Xterra doesn't have stock xenon headlights, so are your lights aftermarket? If not, there is a retaining ring on the back of the headlight housing (under the hood) and you just turn the ring counter clockwise to detach and the the bulb comes right out. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Installation of new cd player in 2002 VR-X Lancer

There are aftermarket wireharnesses available. I suggest the $15-25 purchase. The wires usually match color for color to the aftermarket stereo saving a major head ache if attempting to figure out the factory harness. These adaptors are available at many audo part stores and local installation shops. To check the harness you need, Metra, on of the main aftermarket wire harness manufacturers has an application chart on line, see metraonline.com or a search for American International or Scosche.
