Question about 2010 Ford F-150

2 Answers

I have 2110 f150. Twice while driving it the oil light came on and the truck shut off. I brought it back to the dealership and they couldn't find a code for the problem. I am nervous about driving it. What should I do? The truck has only 8000 miles on it.

Surely it must be under a warranty and a service plan. Take it back to the dealer and let them start a troubleshooting routine on it by perhaps changing the oil pressure switch as a start. If it happens again, let them change something else in the system until they cure the problem.

It is under warranty, have Ford fix it. If they refuse ask for the name of and call the district Ford maintenance supervisor.

You may have a bad shifter solenoid. I believe the solenoids are eather internal in the transmission or may be on one side of the transmission. Not sure what the F150 transmissions have. Take it to a reputable transmission shop and advise them what you have done and see what they suggest, or take it to your dealership and advise them what you have done with it.

I would believe the dealer techs do not go to work to
damage your vehicle

I have never gone to any dealer in nearly 50 years,
after the warrantee runs out,too expensive

I would guess that the oil leak, is such that it would
require too much work to resolve,so they want to
distance themselves from it.

I doubt its a bad oil pump, have it diagnosed at a shop that does a lot of Ford repairs or the dealer. If it needs a pump, it needs more than a pump. 2 quarts is very low, dangerous low.

2004 f150 transmission fault light

Sounds like the transmission got overheated. I would not worry if shutting it off and restarting got rid of the fault.

Enjoy your vacation.

You could try another oil pressure sensor or test the oil pressure with a gauge at the sensor port. If you think about it, the truck goes into a failsafe mode when there is a problem. You could go into failsafe with high temperatures too. The water temp sensor could be bad but with the oil light coming on, the oil sensor should be your first choice.

You can get a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys and it may show the problem. Sometimes it takes a better scan with dealership type diagnostics because the self-diagnostics on your truck is limited.

Failsafe mode would cause the power loss because the truck is designed to kill cylinders and to use the dead cylinders as hot exhaust pumps to cool the block.

Your pickup should have thrown a stored code if it has shut down. Get the code extrracted, and see if it indicates a sensor along with something else. I would advise you to install an after market gauge which operates independantly fron the existing oil pressure circuit to verify that it is a low oil pressure condition the next time it happens.Could be a faulty sensor, but it needs to be verified first.

We had the same issue with our 2007 Yukon Denali XL. Died on us twice after sitting for short periods of time; once we watched a DVD with the engine off and battery died within 10 minutes. The dealership kept it overnight to troubleshoot why the battery died so quickly. They said the radio was "pulling" too much from the battery. (They supposably fixed it) But again a few days later the battery died again after sitting overnight. We brought it back to the dealership and they brought in a GMC "expert" to replace the entire DVD/CD/Navigation system. They also replaced our battery with a much larger battery, similar to the ones that GMC puts in there diesel trucks. They had our Denali for 5 days, but it appears to be fixed now.
Getting it fixed correctly wasn't without headaches, but it was all covered under warranty, including the battery. And they are updating the nav w/ the new edition disc as well for no charge.
