I am going away for 6 months and when i get back i wanted to drop at least 10 grand on it but i dont no the first thing about how to make a serious 4x4 cheyenne 305

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is mounted in the intake manifold and sends engine temperature information to the ECM. The ECM supplies 5 volts to the coolant temperature sensor circuit. The sensor is a thermistor which changes internal resistance as temperature changes. When the sensor is cold (internal resistance high), the ECM monitors a high signal voltage which it interprets as a cold engine. As the sensor warms (internal resistance low), the ECM monitors a low signal voltage which it interprets as warm engine.

  1. Remove the ECT sensor from the vehicle.
  2. Immerse the tip of the sensor in container of water.
  3. Connect a digital ohmmeter to the two terminals of the sensor.
  4. Using a calibrated thermometer, compare the resistance of the sensor to the temperature of the water. Refer to the engine coolant sensor temperature vs. resistance illustration.
  5. Repeat the test at two other temperature points, heating or cooling the water as necessary.
  6. If the sensor does not met specification shown in the temperature versus resistance chart, it must be replaced.
  7. The sensor may also be checked in the vehicle. Unplug the sensor and attach a digital ohmmeter to the two terminals of the sensor.
  8. Using a calibrated thermometer, compare the resistance of the sensor to the ambient air temperature.
  9. Repeat the test at two other temperature points, heating or cooling the water as necessary.
  10. If the sensor does not met specification shown in the temperature versus resistance chart, it must be replaced.

I have a 2003 grand marquis that shuts off after driving 6 to 9 miles. The starter won't turn but dash lights are on. Wait for 10 to 20 minutes and it will start and run fine till it happens all over.

When problem occurs, do you have wiper/heater motor operation with key in the on position? If not, possible ignition switch problem. Another possibility could be battery cable connections. When problem arises, will the headlights illuminate? If not, wiggle battery cable connections at battery to see if they will come on. If so, suspect cable connection problem

Due to aging health, I work with Small Engines these days. But, I graduated college for Diesel, & Combustion theory. You said you had your Steering fixed, now, after been gone a month. loss of power, & other issues. I know somany people that if you touch one thing, they assume,any others that show upp are related. Not in this case. What you are sounding like bad/stale fuel. I have seen smal lawn mowers run great, then get them back 6 weeks later, never having been used, & the carbs, are a mess of solidified gas, & other material. Ethanol blended fuels sold in the US.....have to have no more than 10% ethanol content, or MUST BE VISABLY marked on the pump. Out of a 1 gallon can of gas, 10% ethanol, multiple additives, (less than goverment regulated law) to the point these days.........some fuels, when you buy them are 75 - 80 % pure gas 7 "other". Whio in this world knows what the "other" is. You gas has gotten bad in that month you were gone. Run the car with Octane additives ONLY. Run until as close to empty as you can go, fill up, 1st poputting in a can of "SeaFoam" cleaner, de-gumming agent. Run that tank out & repeat. It should clean it up & restore performance. The other option, remove the tank, drain all old fuel, remove the fuel injectors, clean them all,& all fuel components, & re-install. If frequently away, there is an EXCELLANT product called StaBill, which will keep fuel stabilized & working for upwards of 8 - 12 months. You may consider using this regularly. IT WILL NOT, however, (nor will other products) restore the gas to good grade fuel, once it has degraded

The only liquid that can be getting into the crankcase and mixing with the oil is engine coolant. This is caused by a bad head gasket. Driving the truck as it is will cause serious engine damage. Have it looked at by a professional mechanic before driving it again.

Very first thing you need to do is install a mechanical pressure gauge on there to verify what you see on your gauge. If the actual pressure is low, then it's time to start looking inside the engine. If not, then you need to trace out the electrical problem but will know the engine is safe.

Security light comes on and car wont start

I've owned 3 GA's, and have run into this problem once before. There's a problem in the security system. You DONT have to get it fixed right away, you will just have to give yourself an extra 30 minutes each time you want to take your car somewhere.
STEP 1- Insert your key into the ignition.
STEP 2- Turn the key to the "RUN" position (not all the way to the start position!)
STEP 3- Go have a smoke. Wait 10 minutes with the key in the "RUN" position.
STEP 4- Turn the key to the "OFF" position for 10 minutes.
STEP 5- Turn the key to the "RUN" position again for another 10 minutes.
STEP 6- Turn the key to the "OFF" position again, the immediately try to start the engine. It has never failed me.
I know it's a pain in your ***, but it will save you a costly repair when money's tight. Any questions about this, you can call a mecanic at the Pontiac GM dealer and he will probably tell you what I just tried to explain.

Battery won't stay charged while running. Alternator is fine tho.

It seems that your battery is not getting its charging amount from the rectifier which comes from the dynamo when the engine is in running condition. So just your rectifier and check the output of the dynamo to be sure thats OK............sodeep

1991 Mazda truck starts, then dies unless

Not a solution but i am going through the exact same nightmare and same symptoms with my 1991 mazda b2200. I've apwnt over two grand to have my rebuilt TWICE and my alternator replaced and still does the same thing just starts only to die 2 seconds or so later unless i let it warm up to its max but will still die when taking turns and stopping at lights.
