Turn the engine on and DON"T DRIVE IT but let the engine run, remove the negative battery cable to see if the alternator is charging, it should generate enough voltage to maintain the engine idle. If the car die as soon as the battery is remove then, U have a wire problem. good luck !!

There is a fuse for the alternator not sure where is on your car, but i had the same problem on an old vehicle of mine and there was a fuse under the box that holds the air filter. my best suggestion would be to look up a armature service shop in the phone book and ask them. this is number of the one i use in memphis, tn (901)372-0620. they are very good at what they do, and are usually very forth coming with info. good luck

Usual culprit is boot (Trunk) light. If not, try disconnecting battery and if a spark jumps as you take the lead off it shows there is a power drain. If no power drain it points to a faulty battery.

There is a fuse/relay panel at the front of the car, under the hood. On the side of it, there is a little door that pulls up. under the door there is a 175 amp fuse. Replace it.

New car battery draining and car cuts out

Petrol or diesel car? Im guessing its a petrol. Did you recently install a new cd player? These can cause a constant power drain if installed incorrectly.

My battery keeps dieing while running. just changed the alternater three weeks ago.

Hi.

Make sure that you also replaced the battery. Battery elements may be shorted inside. That will result in battery draining even if the alternator is working.

If you have already replaced the battery check power across battery terminals with engine on and revving above idle. You should read voltage in a range of 13.5/14.4 volts when engine is revving at about 2K rpm.

If the voltage is still wrong after replacing alternator and battery check the voltage regulator connected to the alternator. Here the part.

If battery, alternator and power regulator are OK, test wiring to find out if there is a short to ground that is draining the battery while you drive. This fault is quite unusual with your symptoms. Check battery, alternator and voltage regulator first.

Regards.

1999 toyota battery keeps going down with new alternater this makes 2 alternaters and batteries

The most likely cause if you have changed batteries and replaced the alternator is that you have something that is an electrical drw when the car is shut off.

I assume the battery goes down while the car is sitting?

If it goes down when you are driving, it is likely a different problem.

If you don't have a multimeter to check for current draw when everything is shut off, an easy test to remove the negative battery cable and let it set the time it takes to discharge.

Then hook it back up and see if you have a full battery. If it doesn't go down with the batteryt cable disconnected, you either have a short somewhere or there is something left on (like a glove compartment or trunk light) that is draining the battery.

I assume you checked for the obvious things like brake lights staying on when the car is shut off (brake light switch problem).

1996 dodge wont start keeps draing batteries

sounds like an alternater problem. the batt is not charging and is only running off the batt untill it runs out. check the wires ect on the alt and if that doesnt work, get a salvaged alt.

The alternater keeps going out. We have replaced

sometimes you are just the unlucky soul that gets bum alternators or your battery in the truck has enough juce to crank it over but is almost dead and your alternator is burning up trying to charge a battery that wont accept a decent charge. plus clean the battery terminals

Car battery keeps draining while running charge light staying on just replaced alternater and battery

Test Voltage @ the back of alternator, and all grounds to body and engine.

If you have 14+ @ back of alternator but 12 @ battery the wire off the back (Im talking abought the single larger one) may be broke
