Will a transmission speed sensor help transmission shift better every time? Sometime shifts slow when changing gear

Probably not ! A few different sensors on the vehicle have a say or input to the PCM or TCM that the module uses to control shift points ! My suggestion would be to take to a transmission shop where they have diagnostic tools to check it . They can see on the scan tool if a sensor is out of range , needing replacement ! I'd hate to see you waste your money replacing the sensor an not changing anything ! Besides you mite have a hidden condition that could become a big problem down the road ! Have you ever had a trans service done , filter an fluid change ? That mite help !

Location and access to Transmission Filter to change Trans. oil and Filter

Hi Lb,
My car is RX300 1999 and has the same problem. I changed the fluid 2 years ago after the trans slip and lost the shift. Afterwards it worked for another 2 years. But recently it doesn't work again even I change fluid and put Stop Slip additive to the trans. I was told the trans has to be rebuilt. So changing fluid and filter can help to maintain the trans for sure and can prevent problem. But if the trans has already worn a lot, it can't help at last.

2001 Kia Sephia automatic trans seems to be stuck in second gear, when manually shifted into first, starts off perfectly fine. When in drive, very sluggish on the take-off and does not shift out of the...

Alot of people have the same problem, including me. Changing the transmission fluid is not going to help this problem. THe transmission filter is not something you change as much as you clean and reinstall, its just a metal screen. Call Kia and ask for an "OVERDRIVE SHIFT SOLENOID" they will need the last 8 digits of your VIN, vehicle identification number, to locate your part. I am in the process of changing mine. The part number should be something like 46313-39051. That number is for a 2001 Kia Optima, with the 4 cylinder. There are three shift solenoids bolted to the bottom of your transmission should. I'll let you know what the difficulty level when I am finished.

Transmission problem The car will not shift into

your trans is old and tired, you can try changing the fluid and filter then add an additive such as trans-x or lucas trans additive, sometimes that will get you going for a while, but you will eventually have to rebuild or replace the trans

Transmission

Try changing oil and filter. Also change speed / shift sensor if the oil and filter change doesn't do anything.

Have it scanned. Have the person who scans it pay particular attention to the Transmission temp sensor. If the Transmission temp sensor tells the ecm the transmission is cold, it won't shift to 4th. Also if it thinks the transmission is too hot it won't allow a 3-4 shift.

Linkage shifter adjusted/fix

If you have no reverse, you have a problem. Try changing the trans filter and fluid. While the trans pan is off for filter change, add a bottle of Lucas trans conditioner to the pan before reinstalling the pan. Refill with correct fluid to correct level. That's your cheapest bet. Trans needs service every 60,000 miles
