You have to adjust the cam or cams depending on rather or not its a dual over head or single cam motor, with the marks on the crank shaft and oil pump pulley. You can get the timing mark diagrams from a chiltons book or off of Mitchell online. The only problem with mitchell is you have to subscribe to it. The timing cover must come off, the crank pulley also has to come off. When you get to where you can see the timing belt and gears you put the bolt for the crank pulley back in the crack shaft and turn the motor over manually with a ratchet and socket about 5 times until the marks on the cam or cams line up with the mark on the crank shaft and oil pump. If your car is not vtec then the oil pump pulley will not have a mark on it. This is something that probably needs to be done by a shop with technicians who have done it before. It can be a little confusing trying to do it yourself if you have never tried before. I hope this helps. What makes you think the car is out of time?

K I have every thing off and im at the timing belt. But how do I know if the velvets. Are bent

  • Brandon May 10, 2011

you have to remove the valve cover and head off the motor to see if the valves are bent. Usually a car being out of time will not bend the valves, if the belt broke while you were driving then it can bend the valves. But if you think it is just out of time then the valves should be fine

I Replaced water pump and timing belt on my 1994 Acura legend and car won't start

sounds like you will need to check your timing. when you replaced your timing belt you likely didn't get something lined up right and that is causing your car not to start.

If you had to "reset" the timing as you say, there is a chance that major valvetrain damage has occurred and a cylinder leak-down test should be performed to measure cylinder sealing. also there is a possibility the timing was not set according to exacting procedure which sounds like your symptoms. These are interference motors which can collide internally if timing skips jumps.

If you think the noise is coming from the engine, you could take each belt off one at a time and run the engine to see if the noise stops.

My 1993 acura legend will die for no reason but most of the time it will start right back up some times it will take a wile but it will start back up. You never know when its going to do it you might drive...

When it dies does it take enough time to restart as if it needed to cool down for maybe 15minutes or so? the problem sounds most like your starting to have a pgmf-i main relay go bad.Its located on drivers side up behind lower kick panel. its a dealer only part but any acura dealer will have several in stock.
