Question about 2002 Kia Rio

I have a 2002 Kia Rio RS, and when I start the car it will usually start right up but as soon as I put it into gear it will will start to sputter and often will stall. I find that its occuring much more frequently in warmer weather. What I have been doing and helps is that I will rev the engine for a little bit when I first start it then after a that sometimes I can get it into gear and get going. But it still will often stall or loose engine power when I take my foot off the gas (i will be driving and I take my foot off the gas and when I put my foot back on, its as if im not pressing the gas at all. Sometimes it takes a few seconds for the engine to react but other times, I have to switch to neutral shut the engine off completely and start from scratch again. As well, some of the time I can get her into gear and she`ll idle but as soon as I push the gas pedal she sputters and dies. Any ideas?

There are a number of things going on here and more information is needed-how many miles, car history (maintenance, ownership history), how long has this been going on-driving it in this condition is only going to cause more issues, do do you have a check engine light or pending codes? Based on what you've written, first thing I'd do is get the ECM scanned for any codes or pending codes. Anything else is strictly speculation, but a vacuum leak, malfunctioning Exhaust Gas Recirculater (EGR), Idle Air Controller (IAC), Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), or something basic like tune up issues (plugs, plug wires, air filter condition, throttle body needs cleaning, etc.)-even something as basic as electrical condition or connections could cause such general conditions as what you are describing. You can get the ECM (engine control module) scanned for free at most retail commercial operations, write the codes down and come back on here for a plan to fix this-I strongly recommend you not drive this any more than necessary since it is running so bad, it will only cause more problems.

    I forgot to add that some other things that might be responsible are fuel pressure/volume-these too can be verified by monitoring the pressure at the top fuel rail. The fuel pump, filter and regulator could be related to your issue.

put fuse back in disconnect batt wait 60 seconds re attach, when the horn starts honking lock and unlock drivers door with the key while doors closed window down. get in car and start it, should be fine now.

did you replace the cable or did it come loose? are you sure your talking about the clutch cable for shifting the gears or the rod for the clutch master cylinder under the dash?

I have a kia rio 2001 the car shakes when i drive it. seems that it does not go into gears, it has no power.

I bought 2002 kia rio, it has everything manual. the stearing is so hard to turn.Not only that, the reverse light dose not come on.


If you have manual steering then make sure your front tyers have the right pressures in them.You need to replace the reverse light switch on the gear box

this is caused by severe transmission wear, you are going to need the trans torn down and rebuilt, sorry but that is the only way to fix this right.
