Question about Volkswagen Fox

2 Answers

I have a 2007 VW Urban Fox 1.2 it has only done 3000 miles the last 1000 are mine and the first 2000 where from the first elderly owner. There has never been a history of any faults. But now it is like it has a flat battery and wont start. I turn the key and get a 'click' but no turn over and no start. After a few trys it starts. I put a new battery on and it has run OK for 4 days but now it is starting to do it again yet when I had the original battery tested and the alternator tested they both checked out ok (but i still changed the battery for good measure). It was standing for a while before it came to me and had only done 300 miles in the last year.

You are not doig enough travelling to keep the battery alive. You draw more livfe out of the battery on a start-up than your driving has time to replace. Try driving in a lower gear than the top gear to get the engine to rev a bit more to charge at a higher rate and take the slightly longer route to get wherever.
If you feel that the battery is running down while the car is standing, there must be something draining the battery while the vehicle is switched off. It could be something like a trunk light which is not switching off or a short across some circuit that does not show up on any light. The first and easiest test is to disconnect the battery negative cable whenever you park the vehicle overnight etc. and see if the battery still runs down.
As a more positive step and if this does not affect the alarm, disconnect the positive lead from the battery and wire a bulb like a tail light bulb, between the terminal and the removed lead. The bulb should light up. Make sure that everything on the vehicle is switched off, the bulb should still be lit. Remove and replace the fuses one by one until the bulb goes out. That is the circuit that is running your battery flat. Check all the components on that circuit until you get the light to stay out and your problem should be fixed.
Check your charging system. With the engine running at about 2000 rpm, a volt meter across the battery terminals should read around 14 to 14.5 volts and drop to about 13.8 volts with the engine at idle. If this does not happen, the charging system may be defective. Even with lights on the voltage should climb, but will drop lower at idle.

Have your alternator retested. If you have a voltmeter it should read (at idle & connected to battery) 13.1v-14.8v anything lower = bad alternator.

Which jeep is better Nissan Pathfinder 2000 or tuareg new models

I'm not sure Nissan and VW would be impressed at their product being called a jeep. Consult owners forums as to any problems and fixes etc. Nissan would probably be as reliable as the VW but the VW would have a better resale value as determined by its initial price.

Timing Belt : Service and Repair

There is no official replacement guide for this part, but most most mechanics think the timing belt should be inspected every 30,000 miles and replaced every 60,000 miles. If the timing belt stretches or breaks, serious damage can be done to the internal components of your engine

These CIS vehicle are tempermental. Best thing to do is change the air filter, clean air flow sensor plate(Spray gunout on a rag and lightly clean it ) Gun out throttle body and a slight idle adjustment. Finallyonce a month put some fuel injection cleaner in the tank. See how this works before we start testing items.

Oil usage in 2006 passat 2.0 turbo

I had the same problem with my wife's 2006 passat turbo. We lost 2.5 quarts in 3000 miles and the warning light came on. They put us on a 1000 mile oil test and I lost 1.8 more quarts of oil. They finally agreed to replace the rings. Service tech told me that the factory rings are defective, they begin to lead after about 25,000.

How often do I change the oil in my new Lincoln MKX ...every 2000 km or every 5000 km?

The owner's manual calls for changing oil and filter every 7500 miles in normal service, or if driving in dusty conditions, offroad, or lots of low speed and idling (a taxi or maybe an unlucky commuter), go to the extreme service intervals of 5000 miles. Changing oil every 3000 miles is definitely NOT required.
