Question about 1996 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

4 Answers

Good day, I drive a C200 , year 2005 model. Due to safety procedures the cars of staff members are randomly search on entry to our parking arcade. On more than one occasion the security official performing the search did not close the bonnet properly, which I simply re-opened and closed properly as soon as I have parked. During the most recent search, upon re-opening the bonnet it got stuck and as I pulled the latched it broke the grill of my car. :-(( Does the latch sometimes get stuck when not closed properly? This info can assist me in possibly claiming damages from my company. D de Jongh

If hood (bonnet) is not closed properly it can easily jam and break the latch & grill. If latch was not totally disengaged when shutting bonnet it can bend/brake the latch. Sorry to hear of your damage due to someone elses' ignorance.

The latch does not necessarily damage the bonnet lock but if this was done with constant roughness then it can have an effect on the bonnet grill specially if the bonnet was banged down. sometimes inexperienced handling on a daily basis can cause the lock to wear off or be misaligned. Also on a regular car the bonnet may be opened only about three or four times in a year specially when there is a scheduled maintenance. Also normally the bonnet must lock on free fall from a lower level and not be pressed down, as it might also damage the contours of the bonnet.
Taking such factors into consideration it is the duty of the concerned security personnel to see that such checks are done with care or that they will have to stand liable for damages done to expensive equipments.
Also the grill could have broken off due to fatigue and to constant pressure to it while closing down or if the person opening the bonnet lock was not experienced and thereby damaged the grill at one time.
If not Mercedes can explain if this part was of manufacturing defect to have come off easily or that the grill is very flimsy that it will not stand up to such handling pressures.
Finally the grill has damaged as a result of constant tampering of the bonnet which in a regular car is not under threat. Hence it is up to the company to seek an explanation to the matter and make arrangements for security scan in the future with more care.

The hood latch should be self aliening, if the the latch got broken when closing the hood ( bonnet ) then there must have be an alignment issue with the latch, i would still try to get your company to pay for the repair but if it were to go to litigation you probably wont have much of a chance....sorry....i would take this opportunity to have the latch properly aligned so this problem won't happen again.

please let me know if there is any thing else i can do for you.

I would say that it could get stuck if the hood is dropped skew and the latch by-passes its hook. Then excess force would be applied to release it and this could, if it releases suddenly, catch on the grille of the car and damage the decorative strips.

I have seen several, albeit older, Mercedes with damage in this area. To get proof of this being a recurring problem I think you would have to speak to Auto body repair shops, the agents and insurance companies.

Have 2005 pt cruiser full battery charge wont start

The starter motor has two voltage circuits. One comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the start position and starter relay is energized. The starter motor grounds through the engine block. If voltage and ground for the starter motor are good, then I would have to check starter motor. You can use a test light to check voltage. Any testing at starter motor make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.

2005 saab 95 gear shifter is stuck on park how do

I would guess it is the neutral safety switch. Or a fuse to it. Unless the car is parked on a grade. Sometimes this can cause the transmission to lock! Get a buddy and try rocking the car back and fourth. See if it will come out of park. Good luck hope this helps!

My thought is the neutral safety switch is failing., or the gear selector linkage is out of adjustment-im not familiar with pt cruiser drivetrains, but the neutral safety switch allows a vehicle to start in only park, or neutral. Switch is located somewhere on the trans housing. Loose gear selector linkage can also be the culprit. My advice is to purchase a haynes, or chiltons repair manual specific to your cruiser's model year and follow the troubleshooting sequence for each. this will save you a lot of cash-
