Question about 1994 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 1994 Toyota camry, and it seems to loose a lot of power and won't speed up, and also kinda "bunny hops" when taking off. These things do not happen everytime I drive it although it seems to be getting worse and more regular. When I put clutch in it stops. And unplugging throttle body sensor helps at first but it ends up playing up (running rough etc) after a bit. Please help! No one can find prob and it's been doing this for many months. Iv tried a 2nd hand throttle body sensor, new fuel filter, injector cleaner, and nothing has fixed it!

You say no one can find the problem. I take this to mean you have had mechanics try to fix it?. Have you had the engine computer scanned for codes? There are definitely trouble codes stored. If not from the initial problem, then from disconnecting the sensors in an effort to stop the problem. It could be anything from bad catalytic converter to misfiring spark plugs. Get the scan done and let us know what codes come up. From there, we can diagnose the problem and figure out what needs to be done to help you.

Firstly I have to mention, is the check engine light lit on the instrument panel? This means a trouble code is stored in the main computer, which will tell you the location of the fault.
There is a host of possible reasons
- ignition timing incorrect- distributor fault, oil in there, cracked cap- fuel injection fault- fuel pressure high or low, relief valve failed- brakes binding- emissions system fault, vacuum leaks, blocked valve

Possible tranny or engine mount. Check bushings. Check brake pad backing plates (loose), check brake pad movement (add shims), but most likely mounts. you need to torque the engine while an assistant checks for bad mounts.
