What kind of Chevy is it? The instrument clusters are a common problem on GM vehicles. They are now offering these after market for much cheaper than the dealer part. The mileage your vehicle has now is programmed into the new cluster and all you have to do is plug and go.

My gas hand is not working right

Varnish build up on the sensors in the gas tank. Try running some fuel system cleaner through the gas tank see if it helps. Otherwise just wait until the fuel pump goes out then have them replace the sensor while the tank is dropped.

My fuel gauge won't work? i have a new fuel pump ( 1992 chevy truck)

most often it is the fuel level sender, this is a variable resistor attached to a float inside the gas tank. so before you start pulling out the dashboard, drop the tank and take a look at the sender. on a car that old often the float has become corrupted and no longer floats on top the gas. before you drop the tank and pull out the sender, make sure you can buy a new replacement for it. there is generally a large O-ring around the hole it inserts in, get your hands on one of those too before you begin. the gas tank hanger straps may be too old to come apart and reassemble too so have a contingency plan for that. if the fuel pump is in the tank with the sender, there is some chance the sender was not reconnected when that was replaced if the problem arose after the pump replacement.

good luck

It sounds like maybe the sending unit float may have been damaged when the pump was reinstalled, since the sending unit is part of the fuel pump assembly.

My gas hand floats on my 2002 oldsmobile silhouette

not sure what the hell that means, but if your fuel gauge is moving around then you probably need a new float. It's located inside the gas tank and usually part of the fuel pump. Not an easy job, but possible...

I had a similar problem only I was lucky enough that my gas gauge started working after it got lower than a 1/2 tank. It ended up being the float inside the tank. I ended up paying around $90 for the fuel float and it started reading the gas level correctly. But after 2 weeks and some severe cold weather, my engine wouldn't recieve any gas, ended up being the fuel pump. In buying the new fuel pump, along came a new float attached. So if your planning on replacing the float, go ahead and replace the whole pump, it will save you time, money, and hassle after its all over with.
